Of course, once he's got a nice cortebert-powered 6152, he won't be needing that vintage-style Radiomir...

Good point..

The strap is yours... watch is mine.

I understand the face/palm interface picture joke ;)

I just don't get the 'you said that out loud' thing?

What was wrong with what he said?

Is this some American thing? ;)

sorry X

when the gay viking uses words here like "pointed, straps, and head" , he is asking for trouble ;)

.....maybe it is just an American thing, but he understood all too well ;)

I kind of assumed he went back and edited something in his post that we aren't seeing. I'm confused too.

@ scone.. Did you have to mod the CG to fit the case or did it fit right in.. I know there is a thread over at Homageforum and Oka said that it should except sometimes it might need a bit of sanding.

For the second case I’m using I bought a complete watch from Mary, an RXW MM20 rep.

The thing that interested me about it was the case back and CG. I figured it may be a good choice to build a 6152-1 on a budget as the watch only cost me $110 shipped, so I decided to take one for the team.

At the time okabums CG was still in the early planning stage, DSN’s didn’t look anything special imo and the RXW rep’s was big and chunky compared to anything else out there. Same went for the case back, it was really thick, seemed to me to have the correct chamfer and with having a relative in engineering, only a quick visit to a lathe would be needed to remove the lettering.

Anyway, as I have said previously, your opinions on the case and parts I’ve used/modded will be welcomed.

Mary’s RXW was the cheapest by a long way when I originally bought it,

... The case back after having 4 thou removed,

Now for a brief tuto on polishing.

I shaped the case as before, the only difference this time was that I took Pablo’s advice and used a silicon-carbide burr. Same deal as last time, once I rounded everything off, I gave the whole thing a light wet and dry, it saved me hours...

2010_05160047.jpg

...and he was correct in saying you only get to do one case out of a single burr,

2010_05160049.jpg

Now for the polishing.

First of all some things I’ve learned. If you have the flex shaft attachment, use it, it makes polishing/sanding much more controllable. Apply rouge to the mop at low speed. Increase it to a faster speed and press hard, doing a small area at a time.

Once you’ve give the whole case a polish, give it a close inspection and re-sand where required until you’re satisfied, then re-polish. Remember, the good thing about doing a vintage project is that it doesn’t have to be a perfect sheen...

The end product,

Next up some comparison shots for the RXW and Jackson/Tat cases, the RXW is always on the left when they’re pictured together or first pic shown in single shots, I'd be interested on any views you may have regarding which you think best.

2010_05160115.jpg

Just a few observations I’ve made.

The RXW case back diameter is different, so it won’t accept Nightwatch/DSN parts.

The rehaut on it is also different, so the plexi wall height will have to be lapped down.

The CG screws are thicker, so if you decide to use an Okabum or DSN, widening the holes in the CG itself would be necessary.

On a personal note, I’m not completely happy with the overall contours of both cases but I am quite anal about these things. I may yet fork out for a DSN case. I’ll see how it goes for now and complete the two builds but might use one for the Cortebert in the future.

Thats intresting Sconey. I have Mary looking for a MM20 with chrystal caseback because I want to show off the Corterbert movement. At $110 thats a steal. I would rather do that and save all other parts for another project. Cannot wait for the next installment!

Forgot to ask, what are you doing for a case ring?

If I decide to put the Mollie in the Jackson/Tat case (I'm currently leaning that way but who knows?) it's got to be one of nightwatches case rings. The RXW may well need a custom or cunning diy job though for whichever movement I decide to use in it...B)
