AllergyDoc 40 Posted January 5, 2009 My beautiful Daytona has had another bad day. It's stopped running about 10 times today and manual winding is nearly impossible. I think I will sell it off for cheap and get the seconds-at-nine model. I lack the desire to take it apart like RolexAddict does. Maybe Rex?
sconehead 5 Posted January 5, 2009 Fakey said he'd do it for free didn't he? Or was that on another watch...my memories shot. If your going to get shut Doc, let me know what you want for it as I like to mess about with lost causes. It seems seconds @9 is the only way to get a reliable Daytona this side of the real thing... gottahaverolex 0 Posted January 6, 2009 Mine is doing the same thing Doc. I stopped wearing it all together. Time to go I guess!
arty909 0 Posted January 6, 2009 Well, that just sucks. What happenned when you presented your dealer with this issue? I don't think you've had that beauty for a year yet... He should still be able to rectify the situation. Yes, I know that movement is a ticking time-bomb. but something should still be done on the dealer's part IMHO. Good luck, Arty
KBH 7 Posted January 6, 2009 Send me your PP and I'll give you $25 for it. If I get it running I'll send you back the leftover pieces.
NFleischer 4,355 Posted January 6, 2009 Doc- why don't you freeze the sec @ 6 hand. i did that to mine and it works fine now. of course no running secs but you can still run the chrono sweep secs.
JohnG 41 Posted January 6, 2009 Didn't Luthier say someone was coming over here who sells those expensive Daytona reps with some other mystery movement that is really good?
JohnG 41 Posted January 6, 2009 Here is that thread - it was RA, not Luthier and the guy's name is SpinMaster - he is on RWG.cc and he sells high end Daytona reps - but I think they are vintage models? http://www.replica-watch-guide.net/forum/i...pic=291&hl=
JohnG 41 Posted January 6, 2009 But they look at seconds at nine... is that the way the old ones were? Thank God I never got bit by the Daytona bug. I just don't find them that interesting...
RolexAddict 1 Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) AD, your Daytona has the trouble I told about in the A7750 topic. Its the same with sec at 6 and sec at 9 models. The weak point is the mainspring who often brakes in the cylinder. You need to try to wind it VERY SLOWLY turning the crown just by 1/4 turns, do this 3 to 5 time. So you will gain a little power. Then wear the watch. Now with you natural wrist motion the watch will run. With this method the power reserve is 2 hours... Enough to wear a full day without troubles Edited January 6, 2009 by RolexAddict
NFleischer 4,355 Posted January 6, 2009 doc has a sec @ 9 right? the dial spacings are abit weird. i didn't thnk it had the same problems as sec @ 6 cos the 7750 usually is geared for secs @9. again doc- consider the freeze solution- mine has at least 24-30 hr power reserve now! 2 hr power reserve doesn't cut it- minium 8 so you can leave overnight. AllergyDoc 40 Posted January 6, 2009 It's a seconds-at-six. I'll monkey with it again today.
Dead Bird Dog 2 Posted January 6, 2009 Well Doc maybe this will make your day...
NFleischer 4,355 Posted January 6, 2009 doc - i thought you also had a sec @9? sorry 'my bad' they do look strange don't they? again- take my advice; freeze the
RolexAddict 1 Posted January 6, 2009 doc - i thought you also had a sec @9? sorry 'my bad'they do look strange don't they? again- take my advice; freeze the 6 Its not a sec.at 6 or 9 gear configuration. The mainspring is dead. Shake the watch, will run 10 minutes. Try to get a little crown twist, will run 2 hours
onzenuub 305 Posted January 6, 2009 Just send it to Rex and have it repaired.
AllergyDoc 40 Posted January 6, 2009 It wound today, fairly easily considering yesterday I couldn't turn the crown at all. I just looked down at it and it's stopped for the 2nd time today. It's not a charging issue because I wound it 20-25 times this morning. It stops if I hold my arm still for very long.

The mainspring is dead. Shake the watch, will run 10 minutes. Try to get a little crown twist, will run 2 hours from my understanding, it does have to do with the gears needed to transfer the sec fro 9 to 6. otherwise the 7750 is a reliable mov't

B) It's not a charging issue because I wound it 20-25 times this morning. It stops if I hold my arm still for very long. sprinkle a little graphite on it. Then turn the crown counter-clockwise until you begin to feel resistance. Then report back here.

Doc, you shipped watch to Singapore??? And how he "fixed" the watch? Is he a watchsmith? Did he replace the mov't, or shipped you new watch or what? And what was the problem? You hiding priceless info... I shipped it to some place in China, but it wasn't Singapore. I don't know how he fixed it or if he replaced the movement. I just got it back and it worked fine, and still works fine. RA said the problem was a somethingorother, I forget. Power regulator? Sump pump? Do-dad? I'm a simple man when it comes to stuff like this. It's broke. It's not broke. I wear it.
trailboss99 994 Posted September 17, 2009 Sounds like RA was right from what doc said, mainspring. Josh prob replace the MVT. Don't like the man but I'll never say bad things about his service! John: yep, the older 'tonas and the pree dees are indeed sec@9. Col.

Josh never saw or fixed this watch. I guess it went directly to the factory office on watch market, and one of their watchsmiths fixed it.
