onionbag 1 Posted July 28, 2013 A few weeks ago I got this 187 and quite nice it was too. DSCF0225 by Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald, on Flickr I put a new strap and buckle on it, but there was one big problem.........the crown guard. The pin protruded either side of the guard and the lever was as slack as an old hoor's minge at 3am. In fact the pin was 6.57mm as opposed to the guard's thickness of 5.81mm. DSCF0226 by Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald, on Flickr So being a highly trained machinist I promptly stuck a piece of Scotch tape on the side of the lever to hold it in place.........and forgot all about it..........apart from when my conscience pricked me at odd times of the night. Today, I decided, was the day I'd do the hot glue mod and used Swatchman's guide over on RWI. http://www.replica-w...t=crown%20guard The underside of the guard.....pretty rough in my opinion. DSCF0229 by Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald, on Flickr A wee bit better now. DSCF0230 by Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald, on Flickr The nozzle on my glue gun has too big a hole to push in the pin, so I snapped off some blade from my craft knife and used this as an anvil to transmit the heat and push in the pin. DSCF0231 by Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald, on Flickr Once in, a quick file and then a dress with some 120 grit emery to get me close to flush. onionbag 1 Posted July 28, 2013 Nice. Love seeing member mods! Thank you, but I claim no credit for this. I'd never have thought of using a hot-glue gun for this fix. The ingenuity of the members of these fora is unlimited, even with my background I am continually learning new tips and tricks.
