Question re glass and waterproofing

Recommended Posts

sydduckett

Newbie here so please ignore my lack of knowledge but if i was buying from a rep dealer on here and the watch had scratch proof glass and was waterproof would it actually be scratch proof and would it withstand being worn say in a shower?

Thanks

Syd

Difficult to ignore something that can be answered by typing "reps waterproof?" into the search box and reading the first few returned posts.

As a newbie almost every question you can think of has already been asked and answered on a forum with over 40k members running for 5 years, so learn to search, it will help you avoid getting flamed and you may actually learn something for yourself....surely thats a better thing than just expecting others to do your work for you?

To answer your questions, nothing is ultimately scratch proof, and most reps are not waterproof. Get them tested or take your chance, up to you

hot water and soap is deadly combination for any watch that should be waterproof.

Not a great idea to wear any watch in the shower as Kenny says.

'Scratch proof' crystal means synthetic sapphire - which isn't entirely scratch proof but is harder to mark than mineral crystal or plexi. This applies whether the watch is rep or gen.

Most non-chrono watches can at least be made waterproof, and some may be so out of the box, but GET IT TESTED FIRST. A watch will need to be re-tested every couple of years to ensure it remains waterproof.

+1 and one more thing regarding sapphire crystals, most of the new super reps have double AR coating on the crystal. One outside and other inside the watch. This AR coating can scratch much easier compared to the normal clean crystal.
