twofake 0 Posted August 2, 2013 Hi again, This is an Idea that i had many years ago. It has saved quite a few watch crystals form bad scratches. I know the sapphire crystals are resistant to scratches but this method still helps all types of crystals (even the cheaper mineral glass as per this Seiko). Book Tape is what libraries use to protect the labels on the books and this is made by 3M. The tape is not the best method but this is what I have been using for the past 20 years. Here is my trusty Seiko with book tape after about two years of abuse. You can see the holes and scratches all over the tape as I use this watch when I garden, do woodwork , work on cars (check out the grease under the thumbnail), excercise etc. The tape is peeled off when it gets too worn (or when I could be bothered) The residue is cleaned and the crystal is as good as new
sgtguk 0 Posted August 2, 2013 That's a bloody good idea for beaters mate, thanks for sharing
LightGeek 25 Posted August 2, 2013 I used to do that to EVERYTHING. The LCD in my tape and CD players, etc. It's a neat idea but I'll live with the scratches on the crystal. I just use some Rain-X if I feel for some protection.
