Rolex Blue GMT IIc

No, I have no idea how "gen" the blue color is. First impression is ok, except the bracelet isn't quite up to usual par but that's an easy swap out.

You know your GMT showdown post, how does this compare to the 3 rep types you looked at there? Thanks LightGeek!

I'll post more later after lunch.

First impressions are good overall. Example, the spacing between the words is good. I tend to go for the technical accuracies rather than "how gen is it". The bracelet "feels" cheap, compared to the plethora of rep and few gen Rollies I've had and handled.

Here are my "extended evaluation" comments. You can verify it able with the "gen pic" I posted.

- stem too long. I can just "feel" this given my (limited) experience

- crown too big. I feels huge and "tinny" -- maybe it's the crown guards that are too small, but it just seems big

- bracelet is not Silix $35 special, but it certainly isn't on par with $250 Rolexes we get

- date wheel is garbage BUT you see similar on Subs so it's not worse per se, just not "good"

- cyclops doesn't seem AR (as compared to gen and Explorer II)

+ dial print is good, as is the word spacing

+ it's got the black/blue bezel

+ endlinks are super tight -- I haven't taken it off to see what springbars are in there

My recommendation is a HOLD for this watch. It's kind of like the new ceramic POs -- got them out of the gate quickly with minimal quality refinement. The ultimate would be to merge a good Asian ETA GMT IIc with this watch. Essentially swapping over this dial and hands into a good IIc to gain a better bracelet and crown/stem, etc. Once the dates switch over into the late 10s and early 20s, I may swap in a TC date wheel overlay or just sell it.

Now this is from WI, correct? I didn't see it listed in their section on the forum. I'll have to check and see at home (I'm at work right now) if it's on their site.

Crown does seem quite huge though......

Lume is ok. Nothing super about it.

Wow that Gen is pretty. Why can't the Rep Factories make a better modern Rolex case set?

The Gens just look different, a bit larger and more square around the lugs.

Movement is A2836 25J.

Lume on the hands is green.

Overall, not very impressed except the word spacing and... it's BLUE! :)

Movement shot. The underside of the caseback doesn't even have the usual Rolex engravings...

Probably just go for the 21J version and be done with it for now :)

Thanks for this review LightGeek, this is really helpful, I think the 21J suggestion is right and wait for a great version down the line.

Yeah, I fell the same way about it beeing ''rushed'' out too soon. I'm going with the black one to be safe!

The WI section tends to list their "special price watches" but they buy from the same sources as almost all the other dealers and can get pretty well any rep that exists. Email them with a picture of what you want. In this game it isn't a case of what's on the site. Similarly, you can't rely on the fact that a watch is on a TD site to expect it to be in stock. ALWAYS email to confirm availability before buying.

I'm going to order a standard AETA black and do some part swaps.
