Dzzzz 0 Posted August 17, 2013 That's exactly what I did. I am now on my way to an omega boutique.
Dzzzz 0 Posted August 17, 2013 Omega confirmed that the outside of the watch is authentic and that the case had been replaced due to service. The replacement cases do not come with an engraved serial number, which seems wierd. They referred me to an omega watch smith who will open the case and tell me the rest of the info, for a mere 45 bucks:/. Will keep everyone posted.
scope 3 Posted August 17, 2013 It is real.I built one about a year ago.I ordered the case from Ofrei and no serial number. It also should have a serial number on the movement.
Dzzzz 0 Posted August 18, 2013 Oh great. Do you think I could engrave the serial number on the case?
nev848 0 Posted August 18, 2013 Oh great. Do you think I could engrave the serial number on the case? Nope to be honest. Go to a lazer engraving shop they may be able to do it.
Martin72 1 Posted August 18, 2013 You got the gen hesalite if it's got the symbol as well, I think you're alright
Dzzzz 0 Posted August 19, 2013 Just dropped it off at a certified omega watchmaker to authenticate, pressure test, and clean the hands. I should be getting a call in the next few hours.
nev848 0 Posted August 19, 2013 Good luck buddy. To be fair it looks the real deal.

Either a franken, built up from gen parts, or service replacement case.
Dzzzz 0 Posted August 19, 2013 Authentic and working properly. It is missing a screw, but that's not too big of a deal (40$). Pics: Service replacement case it is.
olly593 0 Posted August 19, 2013 Congrats Buddy, glad it all came good for you. There beautiful watches, hopefully my first Gen if i can gather the funds.
J!m 289 Posted August 19, 2013 Missing screw makes me thing it was/is a franken built up by someone other than Omega (because they would have any needed parts and would not allow dirty hands to be used). I have to assume you got it for a great price, and if so, good job!
HWG 11 Posted August 19, 2013 glad it all worked out... enjoy your new watch!
nev848 0 Posted August 19, 2013 Well mine says hello.
Dzzzz 0 Posted August 19, 2013 If 2000 is a great price than I did. The watchmaker told me that the last service was likely not done by omega due to the missing screw but that the watch had been serviced by omega in the past. I'm going to change the bracelet back to steel. Looks more classic.
J!m 289 Posted August 19, 2013 I prefer the bracelet on this model as well. I actually have (somewhere) a genuine black velcro band by Omega to wear the speedy on the outside of the space suit during space/moon walks... The trouble is, it is SOOOO long, you can't wear it on your wrist... I was dissapointed by this but it's still a cool piece. No markings on it either by the way. Dzzzz 0 Posted August 20, 2013 Dollars. I have that omega band aswell. It looks cool but I'd never wear the speedy on it.
