Suggestions re repair to Gen 1960's Ladies Rolex

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I found this watch amongst my mothers belongings whilst clearing out her things after passing away. I took it to a jeweller with a couple of other watches hoping to have it repaired but was sad to discover that it is badly corroded inside and unrepairable.

My question to you is whether I could get a replacement movement, either wind up as per original or even consider a quartz movement just to get it going. I could then give it to my teenage daughter who would be none the wiser.. She would appreciate the watch for sentimental reasons.

It measures about 5/8 inch accross and about 1/4 inch thick.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your loss and my condolences to your family as well.

Regarding your Mum's Rollie...was it a handwind or quartz originally.

The corroded part made me think it was an old battery.

You could check with the Trusted watch repair guys here, like 10:10

It sounds like a great idea to hand it down to your daughter and she probably won't care about a modification even if she realized it down the road.

Great sentimental piece.

Good Luck with it.

Aren,

Thanks for your prompt reply. My mother bought it in Switzerland in 1959, so I am sure it is wind up. I do not think Qhartz watches were around then. I would say that the corrosion is through carelessness in getting it wet.

I have seen references on this site to 10:10 but not sure who it is?

Thanks
