Keeper eyelet... what's it for?

While I wait for this to arrive... Is there a function for the eyelet on a keeper like this? Or is it decorative? A reference to ammo pouch straps?

Decorative and as you said reference to buckle holes on ammo pouches. IMO its silly, esp since old ass ammo pouches don't have fresh holes such as these lulz

Thanks cwazy. I'll abuse the crap out of the strap until it looks like it went through two world wars then. And call it "patina".

On a real ammo pouch the closure strap uses those eyelets so we use it to make the keepers. To make one out of new leather and punch the hole is just paying homage to real ammo pouch straps. I'd never personally make a strap from new leather that has that.

So it's a leather nipple clamp... Hmmm. How Italian! I figured I had to have a Pam to fit in with the gang here. The site could easily be changed to RPG - Replica Pam Guide. I really like the distressed leather look. Gottahaverolex's photo is a perfect example. So I picked a big Pam with minimal stitching as a good base to test my ideas out. It's from Silix so I have no illusions that the leather will be softer than cardboard. When arrives I'll do some before and after-mod shots.

Thanks for your educational & entertaining replies everyone!

THIS is the look I'm after, but WOW that is beautifully crafted. Thanks! There's no substitute for decades of real use (or good quality leather) but we'll see how it all turns out.

Um, I can make you one of these. That's why I posted my pouches.

I'd read your "new shipment of Swedish ammo pouches" post. http://www.rwg.bz/bo...showtopic=62785

Never mind craftsmanship, your leatherwork is artistry. im%20Not%20Worthy.gif I was tempted to say that I couldn't afford a strap more expensive than the watch I've ordered. Then I re-read your price quotes. Even Walmart couldn't compete with you!

My hobbies for the last 30 years have been restoring cars, building furniture, scale models and repairing old racing bicycles. I was drawn to rep watches because 1) they project style, 2) they're cheap enough to collect, unlike cars, and 3) it's something else I can collect tools for and apply modding techniques on. To me the satisfaction is in making something better than it was.

So I may end up PM'ing you for one of those gorgeous straps. Because no matter how much I like my own work, you can never collect too much art! :D
