How Accurate Is the Text On the 1680 Sub reps?

Recommended Posts

Here's the rep zoomed in:

And, here's the gen zoomed in:

Gen.jpg

Now, with Photoshop, we layer the rep image on-top of the gen image:

First with 30% opacity:

And, now with 60% opacity:

A perfect match! :)

Which rep is that one?

How does the rest of the dial compare when overlaid?

Come on, man, get to it :) :)

The red color match has been the biggest problem, not the font. The gen supposedly has the "submariner" printed in white first and then printed over the white in red to bring out the redness..

Not quite true. There are 2 variations of the "SUBMARINER" text. One, like you mentioned, that is printed red text on white text and the other that is printed red text directly on the dial. More info can be found here.

There are many variations of the 1680 Submariner dial.

The rep is this one. I rotated the image and compared it to a gen dial found here.

I'm getting one for sure!

I tried to align the given images as best as I could.

First, the gen:

And, the rep:

Rep2.jpg

The comparisons. The rep is overlaid with 50% opacity.

First, centered on "SUBMARINER:"

Next, centered on "Swiss:"

And, finally, centered on the Rolex coronet:

No doubt, if I had images of the gen and the rep taken at the same angle, the dials would line up.
