Member X 91 Posted July 5, 2010 Well, some of you may remember that RolexAddict recently posted a Comex up to show what he's been up to... ... and I'm pleased to say that said Comex made its way to my front door... So, this is a mini-review! I'm afraid that I'm still reading up on the history of Comex and Rolex but I understand this is the 5514 - HE valve, domed plexi, the first model that had Comex on the dial 'from the factory' rather than having it only on the back (as the 5513 does, unless it's had a service dial installed), made between 1972 and 1978. (More info here: http://doubleredseadweller.com/ and also elsewhere on the web if you look around a bit.) Anyway, so far, I love it wayyyyyyyyyyy more than I thought I would! I love the crystal, I love the size, I love the aged bezel, I love the way it feels on the wrist, I love the fact it's so different to all the other watches you see everyday! The only minor downside is that the bezel doesn't click, but it's stiff enough to stay in position so it's not really a worry and I think that RA said he was going to work on the bezel pearl next time he does one? The movement takes a little bit of effort to get going but once it's going it's very smooth sweeping, and the crown screws down amazingly tight... B) Overall I'm 1000000% happy with it Thank you RA for a great watch! I can't wait to see what he does next Here are my rubbish pictures! (Apologies as always for the watermarks, it's only because I'm having to use imageshack and haven't got an account, and peoplez occasionally go a stealingz...) KBH 7 Posted July 5, 2010 The early Rolex Sub bezels were bi-directional with no click spring, so that is correct for that model watch. The biggest problem with most of the reps is the bezels move to easily.
Member X 91 Posted July 5, 2010 Ahhh, I seeee... I didn't know that! Thanks for the info This bezel definitely isn't 'loose', it does require effort to turn and you can't move it just by brushing it against your clothes! In which case I was wrong, there really isn't any downsides to this watch!
