SSTEEL 0 Posted December 19, 2014 Little update regarding the Elma Super Elite restoration, prepared the base today whilst I had a little spare time.. SSTEEL 0 Posted December 19, 2014 I just opened the drawer where the new wiring was being kept, and darn, I forgot all about the heater refurb, so just finished it. I wanted to clean this up as there were some stains, and thick spills on it, and don't really want to be breathing those fumes in when the heater warms up. DSC03478 by Micky.!, on Flickr DSC03477 by Micky.!, on Flickr The actual heater plate has some light corrosion, so remove this with some 240 grit. D_Chico 0 Posted December 19, 2014 Wow! What a difference! Lot of work so far but when it's all finished it will be worth it! Just too bad that darn cleaning and rinsing solutions are sooo expensive! I noticed that you got some from the watchmaking school in finland! Lucky you! I have to order mine online and they charge extra for shipping because its "hazmat" .. Kcore 0 Posted December 19, 2014 Fantastic work as usual Micky! I'm really looking forward to seeing this finished. Best wishes to all for a very healthy & happy holiday season!

DR3M3L 4 Posted December 20, 2014 I'm chaging my set up, desk #2 is getting done today, desk #1 just finished.. Much cleaner work space, bought some new drawers for under desk #1, desk #2 will get some new testing machines and will be a "quality control" desk for after some work is done. Also used for refinishing
SSTEEL 0 Posted December 20, 2014 Joran Rewiring done today. The wiring diagram I have is next to useless, so solely went by photos I had taken before stripping it down, so fingers crossed it works, I will be testing it tomorrow as I am shattered after spending a few hours on the floor assembling this thing, not as easy as you would think. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Then to split the new wiring where it enters the base, this is required for the switched power to the heater. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Heater screws back into the base from the underside. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr View of the cable run. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr The to feed the wire up through the central pole, this I had to tape a smaller diameter wire to the larger cable ,so I could pull it through. There is a central long spring in the centre pole, and this was causing some problems getting it in, Oh err. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Stopper inserted, and guide fitted to pole. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr New cork fitted to motor housing Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Base shroud fitted Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr And Elma plaque, I had to use the old screws for this as I couldn't find any new ones of the size. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr And fitted.. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Only to realise I needed to remove it again to fit the heater tunnel. Greased the motor arm Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Fitted the heater tube Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Getting there now.. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Motor fitted to swing arm. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr And done Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Providing it actually works when I test it tomorrow, I will then go about fitting the new switch, and digital timer in the void you can see at the top. SSTEEL 0 Posted December 21, 2014 Fitted the digital timer which will replace the old mechanical timer, but not exactly how I planned, I removed the wide cone shaped base which was screwed on. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr And would you believe it, when my curiosity got the best of me, I trial fitted the timer into the circular void, and it was as if it was made to measure, it even clicked into place firmly, and is now good to go, it sits proud, so I will see how I get on with it, I can always fit it behind the face plate at a later date should I want to. SSTEEL 0 Posted December 22, 2014 Thanks Eric, its already been put to work, and its surprisingly pretty quiet too Got some new screwdrivers in today, I specifically purchased the type with spare blades. Look what's missing. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr The small tubes with the spare blades have vanished. I have sent the seller a message about them. Great eBay seller, this is the first time I have experienced issues with anything I have purchased from them in the past. I think I have given them a plug before somewhere in this thread, but here's their eBay store in case you wish to buy anything from them.. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/kd89fr/
D_Chico 0 Posted December 24, 2014 Wow what a bummer! no spare blades.. I hope you get it sorted out bud! So I got some new goodies in just this past week as well -New bench mat -Horotec 1mm hand levers for chrono and sweep second hands -Bergeon Presto hands puller (the Chinese one has seen better days..lol) -Re stock parts -4 pack of compressed air cans -Horotec carbon fiber "very fine" tip tweezers for hands Another pair of carbon fiber tweezers this time with "fine" tips for handling rotor's, date wheels, and dial etc.. -Luxor "Pink" buffing compound, has a higher grit than gray compound for buffing out major scratches, dents, and dings Now here are some pics of the Bergeon presto next to the Chinese The Chinese ones weren't bad but the tips are definitely thicker which makes it hard to get under some hands and the quality of the steel isn't as high grade so they definitely wear out pretty quickly.. Long story short ditch the $10 Chinese ones and stick with the best!
SSTEEL 0 Posted December 24, 2014 Nice investment David I have those Bergeon presto tools, but prefer to actually use my levers more now after the presto one damaging some hands once, put me off using them with hands with wide tube surrounds. Like those Horotec carbon tipped tweezers though, may get myself some of those as my boxwood ones are ok, but a little big really.

Like those Horotec carbon tipped tweezers though, may get myself some of those as my boxwood ones are ok, but a little big really. I couldn't agree more about the levers!! I actually just ordered the 2.5mm horotec ones..I was hoping that buying the Bergeon presto would have eliminated that risk of damaging the hands but I can see its still there when I use them.. As for the carbon fiber tweezers, I love them but I'm pretty disappointed that they're made out of aluminum.. Its makes them feel too light..but it's how they work that matters so I guess the weight doesn't really matter..lol..I also ordered a set of derlin replacement tips for these tweezers but I have no clue how to put them on! SSTEEL 0 Posted December 30, 2014 I just received the 2.5mm hand levers with the 1mm ones on their way from HSWalsh. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr New ribbed tool mat arrived today, I kind of outgrown my old one, but the smaller of the two will house my hands tools now. SSTEEL 0 Posted December 30, 2014 Hope you all had a fab Christmas. I finally got round to fitting my new Elma basket retainer, and oh boy, (Sam Beckett voice), it was not a straight bolt on fit. That's what I first thought, but after some light sandpapering the motor shaft after removing the old retainer, some added grease, I was then able to slide the new retainer on, but it would not go all the way onto the shaft. What I ended up having to do is to place a small metal die on top of the heater chamber lid, lower down the shaft and new retainer ensuring the springs were free of the die, and then gently tapped the shaft from the top until it was in the correct position on the shaft, which as some of you may know is very important for jar depth clearance. Anyway, onto some photos, I know you all like photos, myself included Old retainer removed. (If anyone wishes to buy this, drop me a pm). Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Then the new one fitted. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr And basket trial fitted.. Untitled by Micky.!, on Flickr We had another foot of snow overnight, and its still snowing out, temps got down to -18, but that was it for now, its +3 today, and the snow is wet. March and April is when we get the real cold, -35 May I take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you all the very best for 2015.!
SSTEEL 0 Posted January 2, 2015 Had another reorganise of my tools to accommodate new, and incoming. I am seriously considering making a multilevel tool platform now, as workbench real estate is starting to dwindle a bit. I just wish I was good at woodwork. Kcore 0 Posted January 4, 2015 Workbench real estate starting to dwindle, ha, ha! I'd like to have 1/2 your workspace Micky. My bench is the size of a 20x20 folding wood table in the corner our game room. I guess I really shouldn't complain seeing how the Mrs. wanted a full size pool table and she also agreed to my bringing in a pinball table too.
omegex 0 Posted January 5, 2015 Happy New Year to you all. Well I have spent some three hours reading this thread and I am amazed at how much equipment you folks have amassed - and the cost!! Thanks for starting this thread - it has been an education - and no doubt it isn't finished yet. In the meantime, I think I shall toddle off to my petite workbench and play with my new toy - a Chinese made bezel remover, having been somewhat humbled by what I have seen.
