Mr Stubbs 0 Posted December 5, 2013 I was inspired by three things: a nice wristie Sardonix posted of a Rolex on a minimalist leather strap; the beautiful craftsmanship gottahaverolex applied to the strap he created for my Pam 372; and JohnG's Official Strap Making Thread http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=1846 I have an inexpensive Sub from Silix (the $75 special) which needed some leather instead of the same old SS bracelet. The leather I used is cheap scrap from Tandy at the craft store, $10 for 2 lbs. The buckle is from an old Canadian army back pack. The thread is the highest quality part of the project: waxed thread that gottahaverolex used to tie up the wrapping paper on the strap he sold me. I used an Olfa rotary cutter (looks like a pizza cutter) instead of a razor knife. The Olfa gave me crisp straight edges. This isn't a step-by-step, see JohnG's post for that. But here's my first-ever try at leather work. Minimal stitching at the lug ends, the leather is sandwiched with contact cement: At 20mm wide by 4mm deep, the strap is very solid. I was lucky the leather softened by bending/working it. Here's the old army buckle for the vintage look: I'm really pleased with the results. And if I can do it, anyone can. greg_r 83 Posted December 5, 2013 I must admit that "a strap inspired by RWG members" made me fear the worst. It would be stained, smelly, generally disreputable and made mostly of well-used troll... However, I was pleasantly surprised - a very nice first effort. Well done!
Mazz 62 Posted December 5, 2013 Must be inspired by the newer members
