Panerai Dials differences

Since I got my PAM 112 I have done some research and lectures regarding the brand and its collections, so I noticed something today reading an article regarding the history of Panerai: there are some differences in the sandwich dials, mainly regarding the font and I would like to know why and which models use each dial.

 

Here are some images of both dials, you can notice the font is different, the more noticeable difference is the number "1" and also the shape of the rest of the numbers:

Well firstly, your 112 looks like its a sausage dial (i.e. the numbers applied to the surface of the dial), not a sandwich dial (numbers produced by cutting into the top layer of a two-layer dial). In fact the gen was available with both styles dependent on age, so either would be correct. The 233 in the first shot IS, however, a sandwich dial.

 

Other than the different manufacturing methods of the two types of dial, there's some variance in dial design dependent on whether the watch is a 'historic' model, a '1950' model or one of the 'contemporary' series.

 

It has to be said that there's also some minor in accuracies on many of the rep dials - although I'll confess that it's never bothered me.
