trying to rescue an Old Submariner

Recommended Posts

nordic

Hi everyone. I have this old Rolex Submariner replica that I'd like to save. I'm not really concerned with the accuracy of the replica to the real deal, more so with the character of the watch. It has a stainless steel case, with quartz movement. But it is missing the crown and caseback. I don't know if the movement can be saved or if it works. I was thinking of picking up a cheap Sub copy $10 and replacing the caseback movement crown and stem. Any advice would be helpful

...could this be an earlier version than JohnG's epic ''897S'' sub?

@nordic, I don't think you will be able to find a replacement crown and caseback mate but trailboss99 might be able to source a movement if you give him the model no.

...good luck...:thumbsup2:

edit: here's the pics,

Oh God. My eyes! Make it go away!

That's almost as disturbing as JohnG's Human Centipede thread.

Replacing all missing or broken parts in this case, is pure time wasting.

Say them goodbye, and buy new one.

Not unmoved at all Nordic, as said I think you have a potential gold mine there :D And if you like it that's all that matters. I guess you can probably get hold of a tube and crown, even if you have to epoxy the crown in, when you get a new movement the stem should be a standard size, though you may have to use an adaptor to convert to the size of the crown but these are available from Cousins UK. For the crown and tube, try this guy - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SS-7mm-Submariner-Wa...DefaultDomain_0 Whether the caseback from a cheap rep will fit is anyone's guess but this might be the best way to go. Or just buy a cheap rep and wear it................

I know it's a mess, .... OK it's more than a mess it's a disaster, but I'm up to the challenge. The movement says MCO 255 unadjusted no jewels. Does anyone know how to find a compatable movement ? Thanks
