First day with my new camera - Seiko Collection

Recommended Posts

Bash64

Well, I finally broke down and bought a new to me camera. Entry level SLR - a Canon T3. I can barely use it, but here is a first run at some pics. No edits except for cropping and sizing.

I have to say I love my Seikos. They are favourites in my collection and the watches that get the most wear at the moment. A watch for nearly every occasion and the lume is always spectacular.

First up, the Black Monster.

Most everyone has one of these and it is a fantastic watch. Unique dished bezel and rated to 200M for those who will get it wet. I bought mine used on another forum and have had it mounted on a chronissimo leather strap in the past, but prefer it on the bracelet. This is the lume king of the watch world. Nothing will touch it.

Who isn't scared of a Monster?

This was my first Seiko and is still one of my favourite watches and gets a lot of wear. I bought it new on the Bay and it was shipped form Japan (if I remember correctly). Comes on a bracelet, but you can't beat it on Nato. SNZF17K1 - otherwise known as the Sea urchin.

This started out as an SNZH57 - a beautiful watch in its own right. I have modded it twice, first as a FFF and now as a Black Bay. It stays on the bracelet for now as it gets most of its wear for work (more formal with a suit).

Notice the domed stock crystal

I've taken a turn towards some vintage pieces and have tried a few recovery projects. This 6309-7290 (from 1978 I think) came to me with a rusted movement and other problems. I replaced the movement from a cheap eBay donor, changed the crystal and dial with Yobokies parts, the bezel insert and superlumed hands from Jake at Dagaz and new rubber from the Bay. I replaced all the seals/gaskets, but will test it before it goes under water.

Big dome! :)

And finally, I had been looking for a 7040 and found this 1983 version in the Phillipines (of course, where else?) This one was pretty beat up and came head only, but the movement was fine. Same treatment as the 7290 with addition of an aftermarket engineers bracelet also from Harold at Yobokies.

I do like the sapphire superdome

Major gouge in the caseback. Gonna chalk that up to an American serviceman in hand-to-hand combat.

Thanks for looking. I still have lots to learn with the camera - I know I need to read the manual that came with it :)

Yeah, the domed crystal completely changes the watch. I did not wear the 7290 much previously.

My wife was not so happy about that one. She thinks I could put her little neck out with that heavy watch. Sigh :( Not many chihuahua chiropractors around.

Thanks HK - from your strap pics, I can see you figured out the photography thing a long time ago :)

Nice camera. It's definitely better than the camera on my phone. I also dig the photo with the "¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!" dog wearing a Monster as a collar. :giggle: Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. The Chihuahua is one of 2 we have. Her name is "Minnie" and she was a rescue dog from Los Angeles. She came from what they call a "5 day" shelter - any of the dogs not adopted by day 5 don't make it much past breakfast on Day 6 :(

Though she had some climate shock, she loves her new Mommy (my wife that is)

I can't believe the difference with the camera - all those pics were in natural light with no flash.

So far, it is the only thing I have learned how to do other than point and shoot :)

That watch is one of my favourite go to's. Very much like a rolex sub.
