jerkstore 14 Posted April 21, 2014 I picked up a gen Datejust recently. Normally, I'm more than happy with a franken. But when I saw it was from my birth year, I knew I had to have it. There was just one thing... I wasn't crazy about the dial: I mean, gray is OK, but I really like a dial with some texture. I dug around in my parts cabinet, and found one. Great. But how to swap the dial? I never worked on a 3035 movement before. One way to find out. Luckily, the same principles apply whether you're changing dials on an ETA or a gen Rolex movement. There are just minor differences... Sacrifice in place. Flip it over and open the case back. Then depress the stem release button with your tweezers. Pull out the crown/stem. Unscrew case screw #1. CAUTION: these screws turn clockwise to unscrew. Unscrew case screw #2. (Avoid that balance wheel!) The 3035 movement itself screws into the case. To remove it, once you undo the case screws, turn the movement ~90 degrees clockwise. Place the movement rest on the case, flip it over, remove the case. Then place the movement in a fancy movement holder. Remove the hands. The dial feet are fastened to the movement with screws, just like a DG2813. Except the screws are about half the size. Unscrew them and remove the dial. Seat the new dial and fasten the dial feet screws. Set the hands, just like on any other movement. Reverse the steps above to case it. Wear the watch.
