jeffrsho 0 Posted May 6, 2014 I found this for sale locally and I am interested in it but something is sticking out and telling me it's a rep. Can anyone come in and let me know what they think, I really don't want to waste my time if it is indeed a rep. The seller Is willing to meet at a dealer to authenticate it, but conveniently for him he works 8-8 tomorrow. Anyway, here are a few pics that I have of the watch. Any help is appreciated! RichardMiami 4 Posted May 6, 2014 there is only one really good way to do this. Talk to him and negotiate a price - but only if it is CONFIRMED gen. Take it to a Dealer (not a jewelry store - they have no clue) As them to remove the case back and examine the movement. If it is Rep - he pays the fee (usually about $75) and you go home If it is Gen - you pay the fee and buy the watch. Any other method, including depending on "experts" here working from crappy pics, will leave you wondering.
jeffrsho 0 Posted May 6, 2014 That's not a ceramic gen agntkerr, it looks like the older version.
jeffrsho 0 Posted May 6, 2014 Thanks RichardMiami, you're recommendations are what I planned on doing. I just wanted to get some rep "expert" opinions before I wasted the time doing that to find out it was a rep.
JimmyV 0 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Rep. Pearl looks wrong, bezel numbers not thick enough, Rolex crown on dial the pointed arms look longer and the base is skinnier, the space between ft = m not spaced enough, crown guards do look off from the pics but not a clear shot and hour hand looks wrong. All you have to also do is take the back off it'll tell right away if it's a rep or not. Edited May 6, 2014 by JimmyV
Daywatch 4 Posted May 6, 2014 I´ll put it this way: it looks so "could be a rep-like" even on those small pictures I would not buy it even if it was a gen. And the pics are good enough to evaluate that. TC with gen insert looks better.
rrussotwo 0 Posted May 6, 2014 I wonder if the seller knows (or suspects) it's a rep and is trying to get out of it?
zero_deficit 0 Posted May 6, 2014 10,000% a Noob v2. Only Noob v1 and v2 have that bezel insert font - easiest tell is the 3 on the '30', where it's sorta curved and way too thin. BP and even many cheap canal street reps don't suffer from that problem. It's not a v1 as it has the updated skinny hour hand. Cyclops rainbow effect found only Noob subs too from poor glue application.
twofake 0 Posted May 6, 2014 Lean towards looking for another Sub is my advice.
sardonix 1 Posted May 6, 2014 Canal street shit Also only very very few gen owners would mount a €6500 watch on a $10 nato.
jeffrsho 0 Posted May 6, 2014 Thanks for all the feedback, I passed on even looking at it in person. I didn't want to waste any of my time. I'm just going to purchase a gen from Bob's watches, I think that's probably the safest place to get a good deal on a second hand gen.

jeffrsho 0 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) So I ended up purchasing a second hand from a reputable dealer rather than dealing with shady individuals. I'll post some pictures when it arrives. Thanks again for everyone's input! Edited May 7, 2014 by jeffrsho
Technit1957 0 Posted May 7, 2014 Have you thought about going over to TRF? (the Rolex Forum) and having some of their "experts" give it a look over. Just an idea
jeffrsho 0 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Technit1957, I passed on this watch and ended up buying a second hand 16613 blue dial s series from a more reputable dealer. Thanks for the idea though... Edited May 7, 2014 by jeffrsho

Mate wise decision, I haven't bought a high dollar gen yet but if/when I do I will be buying from a reputable dealer or if possible an AD. I really do think that if we can afford a high dollar Gen then we shouldn't be bargain hunting. Congrats or your new watch and enjoy!

jeffrsho 0 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) So I ended up passing on the submariner when I went to pick it up because it was so close to my TC v6 that it didn't make sense to buy it. So instead I decided to go with this yachtmaster as it just caught my eye. Here are a couple of quick shots. I'll post some more in-depth shots later.
