Conex 0 Posted June 8, 2014 I was lucky to pick up those particular Persols. They are a Limited edition Steve McQueen model with blue lenses. I happened to be working a contract and one of the people at the gathering I was supervising was a rep for Persol. I had a vintage pair of Rayban aviators with me at the time. Original Bausch and Lomb lensed Raybans from the 70s. They were really quite beaten up. The guy asked if he could have a photo taken of him wearing them as he was a keen vintage sunglasses collector. I of course said yes. Then he fished out a pair of those ltd editions and gave them to me. Proper chuffed.
_DC_ 218 Posted June 8, 2014 You lucky bastard, I'm gonna wear my Raybans everywhere from now on, just in case (although they're not vintage ones)! Indeed very similar taste, some would say discerning DC

J!m 289 Posted June 9, 2014 Nice collection! All you need now is a 1680 and the set is complete. And, the 5517 second hand looks good- I had to modify mine to get closer to the correct shape... I don't think anyone has a perfectly shaped one out there. Most reps use the Seamaster 300 seconds hand which has a long tail...

I don't think anyone has a perfectly shaped one out there. Most reps use the Seamaster 300 seconds hand which has a long tail... If you read the history of the 5517 the hands were often replacwd by Seamaster hands due to damage in the field. They were quite often a mixture of parts from other watches, thats what makes them so unique to collectors. I can't pull up the link right now as I am on my phone but there is a great story on their history on the web that explains how army watch smiths and quartermasters did botch jobs to get them working again so they could pass them onto new operatives. Do a google search. Fascinating reading.
