I have spent the last 1 and 1/2 hour, reading this thread….

does that make a me a weirdo or part of you guys? :( lol

Here's my contribution, though:

This combination of "Nato-Newman" amazes me :)

This is one of the "most talked about" Rollies :)

Pic quality sucks..but an A for effort :P

Wil, damn I like the look of this daytona on that nato!

Where did you buy the leather nato from with gold hardware?

http://www.cheapestnatostraps.com

The left column is the main menu; you can either click on gold NATO, or leather NATO for both silver and gold. They don't have 19mm - just 18mm and 20mm, so either shave down a 20, or thread-wrap an 18. Or just live with the small gap like I plan to do.

hmm...thread wrap?? like literally wrap some thread around the empty spot on the spring bar?

Atta boy Wil - nice to see those beauties out in public!

And ya - I heard that from somewhere here... I think maybe on this thread - someone wrapping the gaps with thread. Never done this myself and frankly the space doesn't bother me. Didn't bother James Bond either, by the way. ;)

Lol, I love you very much Will but there's no way I'm letting you have my B&S strap, that's going on my 5513 when it comes back from Matej!

If you're talking about the strap JohnGmade for me I don't think you'd want it, it's worn and it's too small for me (and I have a 6.5 inch wrist so unless you have serious pencil wrist there's no way it'd fit)!

I'm talking about the one with the nice pattern texture mate. Refer me to the website :)

The space people are talking about Will is the gap either side between the strap and the lug when you buy an 18mm strap instead of a 19mm (coz not many straps come in 19mm and B&S are always sold out of the 19). The alternative is to squeeze a 20mm on but I tried this and didn't like how it looked, felt like it would ruin my nice pricey B&S strap so I didn't risk it again!

Here ya go mate...

http://bulangandsons.com/product/bs-vintage-hand-made-suede-leather-strap-19-mm-6/

Get one while they're in stock coz they sell out pretty regularly! But these are 20mm so won't quite fit right for a vintage Daytona!!

Just got this watch in today. I don't think it's a totally accurate "vintage" milgauss, but it was vintage-inspired.

Haha, you crack me up! I'm quite jealous of the Newman Faststrap though, it's a lovely looking piece but for the same price I could buy a whole 'nother Paul Newman Daytona lol!

PS: I freaking love Mojitos, but so few places can actually make a good one!!!

Yeah, we may have to introduce some ground rules here, NYCKID also posted a few that weren't really vintage!!

For me classification as vintage requires a four digit reference number, with a few exceptions, but generally speaking that's a good guide, so 5513, 1665, 1676, 6265 etc...

Thanks a Robin!

It's had the 6 o'clock subdial gear and pin moved up to the correct position and a gen spec dial fitted, plus slimmer crown and shaved down the plexi so it sits lower on the dial as the rep plexi sits way too high out the box! Doesn't sound a lot but it makes a huge difference to the look and feel!

Yes I agree. They have to be rep or gen vintage Rolexes with the four digit reference number (exceptions would be perhaps the 16750 and perhaps 16660). I'd like to keep everything in one thread for reference for people in future. It would be handy actually if we started quoting the reference number for search engine purposes as well. Not set in stone but generally watches manufactured over 30 yrs ago or so. My bad for not stipulating this when I started the thread.

Hmmm apologies for my drunken antics. Very dangerous to have access to this place whilst under the influence.

I hear you that the faststrap is a little price but it'll serve all my Tona's if I want a bit of leather. I've bought both steel & gold hardware to compliment each watch.

Ahh yes, the Mojitos. The bar we were at make a cracking mojito. They have a nice rum selection to try when partaking in a bit of mojo. Last night the order consisted mostly of Dominico Rum & a little fresh ginger in there also. Smashing.
