relative to 1665 double red,

do you confirm me that it is more consistent with the movement in 2846?

finally got brave enough to mod my cartel 1680.

First time doing everything.. CG reshaping. Lume, polishing..etc

it obviously needs a new crown + tube but for my first time modding, i think it turned out pretty well.

xplQcEP.jpg

lume is pretty bright.

BrHsHBk.jpg

best i could do with the stubby CGs

8kY0d9e.jpg

lume is scary to put on a painted dial lol. xanax helps

DVTOCW9.jpg

i didnt age it too much. there is some light staining on the dwo with some strong coffee

tried staining the dial but it looked horrible. only thing i did was spray some matte lacquer on it. gives it a nice textured look.

hands sat overnight in coffee grinds. i didnt wanna relume the hands. they looked good enough for me.

lots of dremel-ing and polishing.

the only casualty was a movement tab screw. went flying across the room. thank god i had a few spares.

new insert should be here thurs.

cartel 1680 inserts are plastic( Wtf??) and will not fade..

Nice work BC!...

Gotta be happy with that lume job!

I'll be practising that myself over the weekend with a view to doing my drsd.

Hahaha you still haven't done it?

I'll admit, i was terrified when I started on the dial.

Practiced a million times but you can never be too good.

I think I went thru almost a gram of pigment before finally saying screw it and doing the damn thing.

Obviously, you can only get away with non perfect lines on a vintage.

Good luck on yours. Looking for a SD to mod now. :D.

I'm tempted to touch it up a little bit but I think I've hit my max luck with the keyless works for today.

Thought I messed it up once. Miraculously, it went back to normal after some panicky attempts.

Hoping not... I've got far too much money invested in it, I doubt I'd get it back.

My vintage Rolex hard-on has disappeared again, expect a modded 6265 to appear in M2M soon, and a 5513 once it's fixed!

This hobby is very peculiar!

Still very much in progress:

azu7uzu7.jpg

Dial & hands to be re-lumed to match the natural patina on the pearl (ok the pearl is cracked, but simply adds to the character of a vintage watch)

Stem is a fraction too long but will be adjusted when dial is being done.

Correct font DW en route from a member @VRF.

Overall very happy with this. Link fitment in lugs is excellent, a lot of thanks to give that will be done in my write-up.

Thanks Jase... As soon as I have the DW, it'll be off to Matej for the lume work.

Quality... agree with Jase, love the "aged" pearl...

Be a right stunner (not that it isn't already) when complete

Sillix was where I got mine with correct seconds hand - but that pic I posted was a gen from the vintage rolex forum.

THAT is interesting.... The gap between Oyster and Perpetual seems massive to me... I would never have guessed that was genuine.. BUT, it does explain the nice hands! I was hoping you were going to say it was a rep from XXXX and I could order one and take the hands out of it!

Who knows maybe it was a rep dial posted on VRF I spotted another on a rolex forum with big gap in spacing between oyster and perpetual also. (Third pic) This is now stormys, but for the seconds hand my silex on eta 2824 might be worth a punt don't know about minute and hour hands through it's maybe a case of buying for second hand only swap in your old hand and resell. I'd have never have known all these facts about 5517 if I hadn't learned from your eternal quest for milsub perfection.
