Member X 91 Posted September 24, 2010 These smooth sweep quartz are pretty cool - I hope they get cheaper and filter down to other manufacturers so we can get some good, reliable quartz tool watches for little money!

Baldrick 1 Posted December 20, 2010 These have been available in the rep market for some time, only problem is they come and go like snow, one minute they're readily available, next they're rarer than hobby-horse droppings. There are some fundamental problems with the chronograoh reps, sub-dial accuracy, not to mention sub-dial functions, they generally all follow the same pattern and don't relate very well to the gens, but good reliable movements, especially nice if you get one in standard chronometer format. Here are a couple of them in quartz from different factories, ( but same supplier ) all with 'sweep' quartz movement.
mbjoer 0 Posted December 20, 2010 WOW Are these sweeping quartz reps?? It's the first I hear of this. Are you aware of any in the current market? I believe that then pics you show here are a couple of years old.
greg_r 81 Posted December 20, 2010 Robert has listed a few quartz reps with sweeping second hands. As Balders says, though, they seem to come and go. Bear in mind that the subdials - if it's a chrono - will still 'tick'. It's only the large second hand (chrono hand) that will sweep.
djprone 0 Posted December 20, 2010 Surely with a quartz going that mental to create a sweeping motion, the battery must last about an hour
greg_r 81 Posted December 20, 2010 Surely with a quartz going that mental to create a sweeping motion, the battery must last about an hour uh no - it's all about gearing, you know

DenGNNJ 0 Posted December 20, 2010 Wow! Those are great!! I'd definitely consider one of those if it came up. Did anyone catch the accuracy of the Bulova? ... 10 seconds per year. Is that good?
Baldrick 1 Posted December 20, 2010 10 seconds per year. Is that good? Yep, really good, it was designed that way, not an accident
dingle 57 Posted December 20, 2010 Wow! Those are great!! I'd definitely consider one of those if it came up. Did anyone catch the accuracy of the Bulova? ... 10 seconds per year. Is that good? .027 seconds per day.....

mbjoer 0 Posted December 21, 2010 Bear in mind that the subdials - if it's a chrono - will still 'tick'. It's only the large second hand (chrono hand) that will sweep. Conversely if it is not a chrono, will the seconds hand sweep? If so, does anyone have one such watch? It sounds gooooood!!
rychastings 0 Posted December 25, 2010 I know these things are so nice, I cant wait for them to become more mainstream or at least appear more in lower priced models
dave47 6,522 Posted December 28, 2010 Hey, GC! Thanks for the post and links on this Precisionist. It's a beautiful, heavy watch with a VERY smooth sweep. I know because I handled one and put it on my wrist at a Key Jewelers at the Mall last month. By watching the sweep, you'd never guess it was quartz. Right now, retails for $699 for the diver shown in the video. The non=divers are less, around$300. Wouldn't mind those prices coming down, though! dave It's been mentioned before but I came across a nice write-up and thought I would share... http://www.bestofwatch.com/?p=3 & a youtube vid to see it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPZPsimxteA
Fortey 0 Posted December 29, 2010 Wow I love that Fortis that Baldrick posted! That's got a sweep? Any chance you could pass along the dealer info on that? I really can't wait till these movements are more common/inexpensive...
