andy66 81 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Ive got 2 broken watches in my box,a UN thats never been worn with a second hand that came off but what i need your help with is my panerai. I dont remember who its from but for the first few months it ran ok,then all of a sudden it started running erraticly.i kept trying to get it going but in the end it just gave up and so did i. Tonight i thought id get my box out of the cupboard and have a look at what id like to wear since my PO got trashed(bike accident). i noticed the panerai and thought id take the back off.......not that i know what im doing....i was just going to shake it....lol. When i did get it off, i turned it over and this small piece fell out(picture) Anyone know what it is? The really wierd thing is.....my watch is now working perfect, chrono and all.ive put it on a rubber panerai strap i had lying around and im a happy teddy but id love to know what part fell out. cheers Edited July 18, 2014 by andy66
P4GTR 0 Posted July 18, 2014 part number 8200. Blocking lever/lock. Question is... Is it an extra?
DR3M3L 6 Posted July 18, 2014 part number 8200. Blocking lever/lock. Question is... Is it an extra? My guess: it's not :P

Well in your case, it was blocking the... er... escapement. This is a pitiful new low in my attempts at humor.
Cynikal.Mindset 1 Posted July 18, 2014 its actualy 281, 2 function lock there should be a screw in there somewhere too that holds this in place
DR3M3L 6 Posted July 18, 2014 If you do a search on blocking lever 7750 you'll know the answer
Cynikal.Mindset 1 Posted July 18, 2014 guaranteed your watch doesn't function as it should...big second hand is probably always running
andy66 81 Posted July 18, 2014 guaranteed your watch doesn't function as it should...big second hand is probably always running well its been over 5 hours and its running perfect. The big second hand isnt running, just the little one at 9.Unless i set the chrono running, then it moves as it should.
NFleischer 4,355 Posted July 18, 2014 These watch movements have been known to 'replicate' themselves on rare occasions! If you collect all the parts as they fall out , in 9 months you should have another 7750 clone.
Cynikal.Mindset 1 Posted July 18, 2014 Where is the screw tho?
andy66 81 Posted July 18, 2014 When the watch first started going funny about 3 or 4 years ago,i took the back off and what i thought was a bit of fluff or dirt or some crap from the factory fell out.....probably the screw. ive been searching for a bit now and ive found the part and a few write ups on 7750 movements,i cant find what the part actually does though. One thing i have found out though, this movement is a slow beat one??? Is that the term??
Cynikal.Mindset 1 Posted July 18, 2014 I believe the part acts as a brake for the chrono hand. Regular time keeping isn't affected by it but chrono functionality is.
andy66 81 Posted July 18, 2014 Cant say i use the chrono anyway but so far i cant see any problems with it.Starts stops resets.......just checked it against the stop watch on my phone and its spot on. Baffled but happy.
P4GTR 0 Posted July 18, 2014 I believe the part acts as a brake for the chrono hand. Regular time keeping isn't affected by it but chrono functionality is. If all functions work as OP said, then its probably just a spare part floating around.... Just as common as a part coming loose, right?
Mystery Shopper 5,887 Posted July 18, 2014 Maybe it is the rep version of the 'goose that laid the golden egg'. The 253 that lays blocking leaver locks?
andy66 81 Posted July 19, 2014 well. just got up and it's still running fine. I guess I'll just wear it till it throws more dodgy parts out. At least it's made me take an interest in all my other watches.
scorpion 0 Posted July 19, 2014 I think this is a rare example of a super mutated Asian AA+ Super Pube.
millionaire wannabe 1 Posted July 19, 2014 Best watch repair ever! Lol. Think you got lucky, but seriously baffling too, how it can be missing a part and now running fine? !?!? Very very unexplainable.
andy66 81 Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) I've had my magnifying glass out and I can see where it has come from. read loads on the movement and breakdown pics but not found anything on what it actually does. I've had it on my wrist all day and for the first time in years it's running fine, I'll keep searching to find out more but for now I'll just wear it and be happy. The main thing I did find out is the movement runs slower, 21,600,or something like that. Edited July 19, 2014 by andy66
GenTLe 1,511 Posted July 19, 2014 It may have been just a part felt from the hands of the assembler while they were mounting another movement Lucky guy!
gareth 2 Posted July 21, 2014 Just send it me I can bin it for you
Genius 281 Posted July 22, 2014 If it was an extra piece that was accidentally dropped into your case during assembly that would explain why is was working poorly before as the part could have been moving around and jamming up all sorts of mechanicals inside the watch. If this is the case then you are lucky it didn't do any more permanent damage. I'm glad its all working for you now and hopefully will be for a long time to come. 10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) It's a lock for the chronograph. Locks the center seconds in place when your chrono is running, meaning the center chrono stops at position without resetting. There's a screw in there somewhere, sometimes a screw head because it's been overtightened and broken off. Edited July 22, 2014 by 10:10 Watch Repair
GenTLe 1,511 Posted July 22, 2014 So, if he can stop the chronograph when the center second is for instance @4 than it means it is an extra part? Otherwise he couldn't stop, correct?
