alphakazi 0 Posted February 13, 2009 Sorry to hear this Dr. Fleischer - you're not alone There are many ways to get your info - I was approached by someone about 10 years ago that wanted to pay me generously for each credit report I gave him - I did mortgage financing at the time. I can run reports from equifax even without a SIN - I told him to fuck himself but in retrospect, I should have got his info somehow to report him - meh, not really into telling on people but I can see how this stuff hurts people and in that view, it would have been worth it - who knows how many people he scammed. I suggest buying yourself a copy of bitdefender for your computer, a good paper shredder (cross cutting) and to just be vigilant - also there are companies that protect and insure you from this sort of thing. alphakazi 0 Posted February 13, 2009 nope, but I do know with more certainty now - don't verify anything online you don't want others to know unless you are in control and know you're sending someone on a wild goose chase If you're not a doctor, that was a good response... if you are, not so good. It's another trick, ever get an email that makes no sense, just replying to the email confirms your email is valid. By the way, it may not be your rep-buying habits that has caused this. According to a friend (actually ex-wife) who works in CC security for one of the major banks, a significant majority of credit-card-derived I.D. thefts seem to be down to dishonest employees in bricks-and-mortar retail.
