Pseudonym 0 Posted October 31, 2014 I've recently decided to buy a vintage gen. I'm in no hurry so will buy when I've got an acceptable fund pot & the right watch at the right price comes along. Thought it might be fun to get some input into this. While I peruse for all things lovely perhaps you can help me discover a hidden gem I don't know about. Maximum spend is £1500. Example would be a Heuer Pasadena or Autovita, a Zenith Chrono Val72 or more obscure like a Sorna World Timer etc. Cheers P.
plankton 1 Posted October 31, 2014 Don't forget about Victorinox edit- not vintage
rickyrosey 2 Posted October 31, 2014 You can also get a lot of decent vintage omegas or longines maybe
10:10 Watch Repair 1 Posted November 1, 2014 Take a look at Breitling Cadet. Some of the vintage models are under appreciated. There are lots of Landeron based watches, many under the name "Chronographe Suisse" but if you can afford it, Valjoux movements like the 7734 are more solid. The VJ 72 is very sensitive to a proper service, it's a delicate movement in a lot of ways. You should be able to get one in great condition in your price range though. Some vintage Heuer are under the radar and a good one to search for. The nice thing about vintage chronos is, if you stay away from the obvious collectibles, there are lots of great bargains. Don't trust any seller who tells you the watch was serviced unless you can verify. I have seen a lot of them.

ellistyle1 0 Posted November 1, 2014 I lost out on an autavia in decent condition about a year ago. went for less than 800. Since then I've been on the hunt too. Love those vintage heuers. Omega Chronostops are pretty slick too and can be had for surprisingly little. Good luck!

Helldiver 0 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) I look for years for a descent (and affordable) Omega flightmaster but no luck yet. With GMT (blue hand) Or brownish dial Edited November 1, 2014 by Helldiver
bklynboy 0 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) Not sure if 25 years old fits vintage definition but plenty of 80's chronographs can be had for cheap money on forums like WUS or TZ Edited November 1, 2014 by bklynboy
BigDee62 0 Posted November 1, 2014 How vintage do you want to go? I've been thinking about picking up a WWI trench watch. There's usually a wide range of prices available on ebay depending on the quality and the brand. Even at a GTG you won't see a lot of other folks with a trench watch, so it's something a little different.

Helldiver 0 Posted November 1, 2014 I like these..I haven't seen one of these in years. They are actually for sale now on eBay but above 2500$. :P
BentleySharp 0 Posted November 1, 2014 People either love them or hate them, but I've seen many vintage Cartier watches at right around your price limit. Even certain versions of the SS or two-tone Santos can sometimes be found around $1500 - $2000.

_DC_ 218 Posted November 2, 2014 Sorna http://www.ebay.de/itm/Rarer-Vintage-SORNA-Chrono-70s-Chronograph-/181568859926 That's pretty cool. Inexpensive also!! A lot of these 70's lozenge shaped chronographs are really cool, and very reasonably priced. I see a lot with Landeron movements for £800-1500, that's a good quality chronograph movement for not much dough. Unfortunately I'm not nearly trendy enough to pull off the retro look :( DC
