What do you tell people?

As far as friends and family goes, do you usually lie to them?

Touché. Of course not.

No one's ever asked.

If a stranger ever asked, I'd just give them a long WTF look, shake my head almost imperceptibly, sigh below my breath turn my head and talk to someone else.

If family or friend asked, I'd ask them if they wanted one, and if they did, I'd say I could get them one for $230 or whatever the cost is.

No one cares. Most look at the time on their phone anyway.

Someone says "Hey nice watch, is it real?"

Your response is....

I tell them to check out the dozens of other threads asking the same thing on rwg.

EDIT: Let me finish qualifying by saying this. One time I wore the Rolex Deepsea Challenge monstrosity out and a family member asked to see it. The only comment they had was "Wow, it's a Rolex but I'd probably buy a smaller one, I couldn't wear one that big." Moral of the story, nobody really has any idea or really gives a damn. Those who do are either enthusiasts or feel threatened by the size of your manhood (based on your watch).

The only person who's ever asked me "is it real?" was my mum.

I told her "It's fake mum, I bought it off a Chinaman on the Internet!"

She didn't believe me...........

I say 'yes they are real and if you want one I can arrange it for you'. Dragnation taught me this. :D

In my experience, very few people are interested in watches and all anybody ever gets is the occasional 'nice watch'.

I got a weird questions when I opened 2 packages with the exact same rolex sub at work and had them both neatly chilling at my desk of wow did you get the biggest bonus just now ? To which I laughed it off, pretended my side profession was drug dealing then walked off feeling like a boss.

I tell family members the truth, now got my twin asking me to get him some!

I answer with "of course it's fucking real" and show them the second hand moving. If they want to go one further they can also watch the minute hand move.

I've not meet anyone yet who wants to stare at my watch and see the hour hand move, but the option is there.

I say "yes, it's real. The Hublot Big Bang King was a gift from my 4 year old child. She saved her pocketmoney for 2 months to gather $250,000 ..."

One thing this hobby has taught me is that 99 percent of people couldn't give a shit about your watch and bar a rolex or omega they have no clue about brands. ....I said to a good friend that I was thinking of a gen tudor he laughed and said what the fuck is that, I said it's a rolex he said well buy a rolex then. .......... and I think the only watch I get a few comments on is a white armani ceramic watch I have

I only get asked by people who know and understand watches, and if there is one thing I have learnt over the years, If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember the lie.

......No no, could never afford the real thing. This is a Chinese fake!

It´s assembled by underpaid workers in an underground sweatshop.

It´s totally crap and will fall apart any moment.

Just look at this seconds hand, it doesn´t even tick any more like Your quartz,

it just sweeps around.... :)

Pseudonym

Another "is it real" thread...

Uhmmmm.... I've never been asked. I've often told people it's a rep but never been asked the status of authenticity!

Genius

I will always admit that its a replica if asked but generally would't volunteer the information just because someone comments on the watch, as posted already if someone says nice watch then I say "thanks" my mates know I am into watches and that I buy reps so it something I get asked quite a lot by them but not something I have ever been asked by a stranger.

On the other hand if I meet someone who is clearly interested in watches and is taking a particular interest in the watch I am wearing then I will tell them it is a replica and I have in the past taken my watch off to let them have a proper look and feel of it I have even recommended RWG when someone was particularly impressed with one of my reps, it was the Noob Sub C no-date which is not even the most gen like of my collection
