Luthier 1 Posted November 6, 2010 I think I killed the thread on the crown tube of my IWC Cousteau. Questions: where can I get new tube, and how to extract the old one? Any help will be much appreciated.
graman 2 Posted November 7, 2010 I'm at a loss mate...very sorry. Would Mary be able to go to the factory for a new tube? She does a lot of business...may have enough clout to source a component for you.. How to extract....all I can say is NFI! Perhaps OS might have an idea? trailboss99 994 Posted November 7, 2010 You need a crown tube extracting tool. It just grips the inside of the tube so you can unscrew it. The new one just screws in unless it was a glued in tube which I doubt. Col.
Luthier 1 Posted November 7, 2010 Thanks, Col! And where I can buy such a tool?
greg_r 81 Posted November 7, 2010 hmm - just a wild guess, but RWG shop maybe?
alistairw 0 Posted November 7, 2010 If all else fails thenyYou may also be able to use a product called an 'easy-out', these are used by engineering workshops to remove broken screws etc. Heres a link which explains them. In 'lay mans' terms they screw in the opposite direction to normal. Thus as you screw into the tube, they grip the sides of the tube, as you tighen them they are actually undoing the tube. http://www.brokentap.com/easy-outs.html Good luck. trailboss99 994 Posted November 8, 2010 We have 'em in da shop mate. An easy out will work but will destroy the tube. Col.
