Foxindebox 465 Posted January 21, 2015 So, I'm in Singapore for a short stop-over on my way back to the UK. I decided to go and have a mooch around the various boutiques to see first hand, what the genuine watches I have reps of reps look like. First stop: - I have a Miyota Royal Oak 15400 and I must say, it looks pretty damn good compared to the Gen. Obviously there are tells and massive differences in construction quality etc... But from wrist distance my rep looks great. That being said, the Gen is a beautiful piece, feels fantastic on the wrist and I would absolutely love one! Here is the pic More to follow later ???? wolfwood 4 Posted January 21, 2015 Can you elaborate more about the differences in the construction quality? Thanks.
mikeran 0 Posted January 21, 2015 If I'm not mistaken, the bezel screw on a gen are made of 18k white gold.
Foxindebox 465 Posted January 21, 2015 Can you elaborate more about the differences in the construction quality? Thanks. Well just speaking for my rep, the crown screws all the way down and the bezel touches the gasket all the way round on the Gen If I'm not mistaken, the bezel screw on a gen are made of 18k white gold. I believe so.... I obviously couldn't compare mine, but the screws seemed somehow smaller? Anyway, the fit and finish of the case was beautiful and the movement, a joy to behold! Foxindebox 465 Posted January 21, 2015 OK, so on to my next stop. I tried on a SS Calibre de Cartier Diver and found it to be quite close to the rep (or the rep to be quite close to the Gen to be correct). The main differences I could see (going by memory) was that the bezel on the rep wasn't quite as crisp and well defined, also that the cabouchon on the Gen crown, didn't seem to be quite so prominant (although I may be mistaken as I couldn't directly compare the two). the other thing I noticed was that the screws that hold the strap were more recessed into the outside edge of the lugs. Again, the Rep is very close to the genuine watch. There are flaws, but for a faction of the cost its a good representation.
Foxindebox 465 Posted January 21, 2015 One foggy picture of AP ... taht's porn, man you "get off" easy Well, whilst I wasn't exactly pretending I could afford these, I didn't think the sales assistant would appreciate a full blown photoshoot Oh and by the way, they didn't call me two-stroke at school because I rode a moped :P
Foxindebox 465 Posted January 21, 2015 OK, so the next stop was where I went off track and deviated from my original plan..... I have a Gen IWC pilot and when the SA saw it, she "persuaded" me to try on a few different models. So, from here on there is no comparison to rep's.... I liked this one so much, I think i'll be in the market for a rep in the not to distant future... then, I tried these.
Foxindebox 465 Posted January 21, 2015 Unfortunately, this was where time got the better of me. I had enough time one last stop, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about and try on a Calatrava 5227 (after DC's review, it would be rude not to. This, unfortunately was the shittiest photo I took. But after trying on this extremely beautiful timepiece, I will be putting in an order for the rep ASAP. This must be the first time I have specifically tried on a Gen to see if I fancied getting the rep and WHAT a Gen it was to try, is was absolutely gorgeous....... stunning........ Here are some more pictures of the boutiques I had to rush past :( (my 8 month old daughter losing her shit was to blame ) But I did grab a snap of this... As I rushed past this... Kwt 11 Posted January 21, 2015 Watch shopping in Singapore is another level. It really does make shopping in the UK look pathetic. Funny enough I have been to these shops as well as I have been to Singapore a few times. Shopping in Marina Bay Sands is INSANE - the Richard Millie shop was just a joke. Kwt 11 Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah Orchard road is decent but if you have time - just go to Marina Bay Sands. They even have a water boat that you can ride............in the SHOPPING CENTRE. Honestly even brands like TUDOR have their own store that is just massive. In Singapore, it's all about the service. You aren't really pressured into buying anything. Plus you can claim back the tax at the airport so you got no excuse :P

That might have swung it
Realism 72 Posted January 21, 2015 Singapore is still more expensive even with the GST refund. This is partially due to the Chinese Mainland shoppers that are more than willing to pay full price on an item; and also... the region itself finds no suitors in terms of watch buyers... Malaysia would probably be a better place to buy vs. Singapore
Kwt 11 Posted January 21, 2015 ^^ that is a valid point. I was in KL earlier this year and a new Black Bay cost roughly about £600 cheaper brand new then UK. Singapore however was roughly the same in terms of price. Either way you will get a good saving.
