6498 v. 7750

Recommended Posts

ghardy

Just read the great thread posted by Greg R., regarding movements. It appears that that the 6498 are superior to the 7750, but at least at the trusted sites I have reviewed, the watches with the 7750 are more $. I image it has to do with what appears to be the new 7750 28k vph., but then again, I do not have the slightest idea what I am talking about.

I want to purchase the best possible PAM, and I am confused.

Thanks,

Gabe

Gabe, A7750 and 6497/6498 are absolutely different beasts,

A7750 is AUTOMATIC movement with chrono function and 28,800 beats per hour.

6797/6498 isc HANDWIND movement without chtono function with 18,000 beats per hour.

With big seconds hand you'll see the difference, lower beat gives you "ticking", high beat gives you smooth sweeping, but since most PAMS have small seconds hands, you'll never see the difference.

Also, 6797/6498 is extremely reliable movements, so, you'll never go wrong, choosing these movements.

And YES, A7750 is 3 times more expensive.

Apples vs oranges.

6497 movement is hand wound

7750 is an automatic movement ( either in chronograph config or GMT or base non chrono, non GMT form)

The hand wind movement is far less complicated and thus is generally more reliable but the 7750 movements are fine too. The problem isn't general with the movements, it is the conditions and care they are assembled.

The 6497 is a much cheaper movement so the watches that are powered by them are usually cheaper.

The best PAM?

I suggest the ultimate 156, ultimate 088, ultimate 104, or any of the 7753 powered daylight chronos. These are the best out of the box and require little or no modification.
