Realism 72 Posted February 9, 2015 I agree, but the OP stated that the cost had to be over 1 grand. That's luxury for a lot of people In other forums, if it is under 20K its not luxury. All depends on how it's defined. I figured a grand was a good entry point for price into "lux" watch brands. There are several brands with watches is the 1k- 2k range that are "lux" watches, especially on the secondary market. It seems like a lot of people opted for a Tag. I assume because of the manageable price point for most. I know for me it was a justifiable amount for a splurge. It's nice to see so many people with a wide selection of reps and gens. Well, it looks like my opinion of a "luxury watch" may need some adjustment. I never considered Tag, Omega, etc to be luxury, but a couple of watch sites say otherwise: http://www.devonbuy....rand-hierarchy/ http://www.chronocen...es/brands.shtml watch brand hierarchy.... TAG and Omega is luxury - you do not need a watch to tell time
RichardMiami 4 Posted February 9, 2015 There was nothing wrong with the $1k starting point.... it's arbitrary, but so is any other line you wish draw. Luxury is a term with no objective meaning.... and who cares? This is a great idea for a thread! Beats the crap out of reading about best subs and QC pics! Keep em coming! fatarms 7,788 Posted February 9, 2015 My wife's grandfather gave her his old watch to sell to buy books for college. She never sold it and gave it to me as a gift when we were dating. The bug bit me hard. 1983 Gen Rolex GMT 16750 with the original matte dial, many of these watches were sent to Rolex for servicing at which time they were replaced with the satin dial. This still has the original matte dial making it much more rare for this model. Add in the natural Texas sun-faded "ghost" pepsi bezel insert and it's a piece that's a keeper. marressey 0 Posted February 9, 2015 My first luxury gen was the Omega Seamaster Pro 300. A 2005 version (just after Brosnan had left and before Craig took over and added the Planet Ocean to the Bond watch stall). I still have it. I still wear it on a weekly basis and it's very dear to me. The second gen I bought was a Tag Heuer ladies Aquaracer for my wife this christmas.
