Sending Your Watch Back to China for Repair

Recommended Posts

£7.50 for shipping with tracking is a very good deal. From the USA, the USPS option with tracking is $38 online, more if all done at the post office. There's a $25 or so shipping option but with no tracking. I went through a similar process a couple months ago and the total turnaround time was just over 30 days.

I to will be doing the same thing come Monday and it sounds like the same place (Ryan at InTime) I tried option A to save time but couldn't find anyone to work on mine.

I've had to send back 3 in the past and all have worked out as smooth as your experience. These guys are TD's for a reason. As long as the Post does there job and Chinese Customs steers clear, it's all good.

... As long as the Post does there job and Chinese Customs steers clear, it's all good.

That is my HOPE.

Sent my First-ever REP back to China for repair.

It built no power reserve and always stopped at the same position of the secondhand, even while wearing.

4 days later tracking showed -arrived in destination country Taiwan-

since that, nothing seems to move.

That was on 18.04. :o

Asked TD today, if it arrived finally - no.

Maybe it got seized, that would mean $300 out of the window, for nothing. :shitfan:

My experience is that they usually get there, but it can take several weeks from landing in the destination country to reaching the dealer. Don't lose hope just yet :)

Yes,

but Toro told me, it is NOT the normal way, to travel via Taiwan.

I still hope...what else could I do instead. ;)

Sorry, only just spotted your post feves.

As I said above, the TD requested that I use the Royal Mail International Signed For option. This is a standard option at the UK post office.

It is said to only track as far as leaving the UK but in my experience it tracked every step of the way using 17track.

Biggest hold up was Chinese customs.

Going back to the initial thread starters comments - If Option A is chosen and I look to get it fixed locally, rather than sending it back to China, can anybody provide advice regarding best process to follow..

I assume taking it in to a mainstream jewellers like H.Samuel is a complete no-no? if so is there an online list of trusted watchmakers that can be referred to?

This is the biggest issue for me with reps. I'd consider paying out of pocket locally but most watchmakers probably wont want to work on reps. But I guess you get what you don't pay for!

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Yea you're lucky...my last watch sent for repair never reached the TD. According to the tracking it is still in transit since 12 December 2014. I'm afraid it is gone. :(

I had a buddy that tried, he never heard a word back :(

What's the percentage of watches that need repair within the first year of purchase from a trusted dealer?

I know this is a broad statement & probably can't be answered, but would be nice to know.

Problematic by themselves: in my experience around 4-6%.

Problematic by misuse (let them falling / forgot to remove while chopping wood / forgot to avoid changing date at 11PM): depending on your clumsiness.

Mine was 10 months old when it died, after 6 months or so I could tell it needed to be looked at however because of the movement (7750) no one wanted to touch it. Now it's stuffed and I need to send it back to China for repair. This was my first replica, so 100% for me! :)

You could send it to a modder like Vac or Strodda that has experience working on 7750 movements - they could possibly fix the watch. Sure, it'll cost you a bit more than the China route but it'd get done right and you won't 'lose' the watch in customs.
