megatronz0r 0 Posted March 31, 2015 I was just wondering what is the deepest somebody has personally gone with a rep, and what model was it? I tried to do a search to not be completely n00b status. I found this thread answered a few questions, but not with much detail. http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?showtopic=33611 I didn't see any real specific models mentioned. I'm just really curious, i'm not looking for a replica dive watch that i can go down to DSSD depth i'm just curious who really has gone out swimming or diving with their rep and had surprising success. I have hit the pool and lake with PAM111 with no visible problems but that's like 12 feet maybe. Any brand, any factory, like i said i am just really interested. The more detail the better, like i said i'm really interested if there's any rep's out there that are even at basic Orient Mako dive depth which is about 200m/660ft. greg_r 81 Posted March 31, 2015 Serious answer: Some reps can be waterproofed to handle diving to a reasonable depth. I wouldn't trust any of 'em out of the box, but with seals greased and the crystal seated properly a good sub rep should be able to handle the same kinda depth as the gen. There was a thread over on RWI a couple of years back by fakemaster, who did some waterproofing work on a mid-range sub and managed to get very impressive results on a pressure test. The real problem is that the consistency of manufacture isn't there with reps the way it is (well, usually) with gens - so one sample may be easy to waterproof to the levels you're requiring, whether another sample from the same batch may give problems. Daywatch 4 Posted March 31, 2015 Look specifically for non-chrono reps that are TD-rated to 100m (one less = 50m) - these will be the easiest to waterproof (check gaskets/ position them correctly/ silicon-grease), these normally will pass the test between 6 atm and 10 atm and are good to go. While there are tolerances, generally speaking they have improved a lot in the last few Years. - these are $300 - $400 reps - there is an Asian ETA inside, nothing to treasure or behold, easy to replace in the worst case szenario - the fun factor for ocean - or pool-swimming is high - have never been below 12 feet with a rep - there is no point in pushing it to the limits either - have never had a tested rep fail or leak yet Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
