Review TAG Carrera Day/Date

 

After recently selling my gen Calibre6, I had to update the watchbox to show some TAG representation. A visit to the AD to see the Carrera oversized 43mm Day/Date wound up making me loony in love. I made a b-line back home to get one on its way to me from one of our trusted dealers. After probably driving Mary nuts, this came to me.

 

 

The watch is extremely close to gen. Two major things stand out from the gen counterpart. The tip of the G in TAG is flat instead of arrow headed on the dial emblem, and the screws in the movement are blued on the rep. Personally, I like the blue screws, and the emblem doesn't bother me. These are so minor, the only people that would ever be able to call this watch out, have a membership here.

 

 

The fit and finish is remarkable. All of the numbers on my dial are perfectly lined up. The day/date wheel lines up perfect. My chrono needles all line up perfectly, straighter than the gen needles were on the watch at the AD!

 

 

The bracelet is sharp and needs overhaul, but the markings are craftsmanship is excellent. I wet sanded the inner surface edges, than used my bracelet rattle method to fix the feel.

It is now smooth, soft and has that satin-like gen feel. Resizing the bracelet pins was easy. End links are decent, with an excellent fit between the lugs.

 

Lovely AR. The gen has strong blue AR, the rep looks spot on.

 

 

Beautiful watch. Perfect size for just about anything. This thing has presence.

 

Crown and pushers reproduced with the highest quality.

 

Awesome feature, the ability to admire the beautiful 7750 movement. Rotor is correct to gen.

 

 

Black leather strap on the way to go with the deployant. I'll share some pics once the leather arrives.

 

 

Wears very comfortable. Nice height due to a perfect case thickness. 43mm feels just right on my ~7" wrist. The watch looks larger than 43mm due to the oversized dial/crystal against a less thick bezel.

i dont care what people say. they daytona is the best watch in the world

and you own one too.. so you might feel gay when you have it on.. but that has nothing to do with the watch.

Any comments on the Asian Valjoux movement in this rep? I am 90% sure I want to buy this watch! I can't make up my mind if I should get a chrono movement.

I am interested in getting a same one. I fell in love with it when I tried a white one on at an AD in Dubai. I just didn't feel like dishing out the $4k they wanted. Any idea where the best rep is located for this model? (I am based in U.S.)

It's been a while now, I'm not exactly sure how much I paid. It has since been put on a leather deployant by yours truly.

In most cases, they usually are. I love bracelets.

 

I initially fell in love at 1st sight with this in its gen form on leather, so I think that jaded me. I wear the leather deployant a lot on this watch.

Great recently bought the same with carbon fiber dial.

A great model.

Another difference compared to the original.

 

There, the black paint on the crown is black mat.

I have both rep and gen for carrera calibre 16 day date chrono

 

I'm not buying from your dealer. However from the pic its almost the same rep.

 

there are many flaws.

 

1) The black dial color is a bit different.

2) The red chrono needle and the color of a word "automatic" is dark red. While the gen is a bit red-orange. this is one of the most obvious one.

3) The screw in the backcase of the machine is blue, actually is white.

4) The word "tachymetre" is a bit bold on the rep, while the gen have thinner font.

5) the sapphire glass color is different too. the gen have better and bright blue-purple color (during day time). (some reps production might have different color, but i can assure i prefer the gen color)

6) The wheel machine in the back is easier to move,

7) The rep for a word "TAG" on the bracelet is not as think/bold as the gen.

 

Besides this 7, there are still some other minor flaw. But still worth to buy. I personnaly love the watch. Its my favorite sport watch ever!! =)
