Omega 3510.50 - aka Speedmaster Reduced

Recommended Posts

LightGeek

There's a lot of commentary out there on the net so I'll spare the details. Noticed this fellow while on a late night window shopping spree after plankton posted the contact for his Omega GMT. Nothing really interested me there because I have chicken wrists (~6.3"). I've had a bunch of Omega reps and 40-42 look ok but really aren't that comfortable. Plus, I've been "diving" into smaller watches and realizing how damn nice they feel (i.e. 38mm Apple Watch, 36mm Explorer I, 35mm Nomos Tangente...).

With those boring details aside, the Speedy Reduced piqued my interest when Omega said it was 35.5 but further reading revealed it to be 39mm. I was hesitant at first but with the thin 18mm bracelet, this probably feels better than the 39mm Explorer I, I sold.

So here's the deal for me...

PROs

- vintage look, slightly yellowed markers, will replace my tropic 6362 Daytona

- "only" $1000 for a feel good gen, and it feels good

- fits my chicken wrists very well

- acrylic crystal, I actually like this. The domed crystal has a nice vintage feel

- THE BEST PART: They sent it by EMS full rated value and I didn't have to pay A DIME IN CUSTOMS! :)

CONs (for some, but really not for me)

- the DD movement

- it's not a Moonie

If I really like it, I MIGHT "upgrade" to the 3539.50 which has a sapphire crystal, among other things. Probably not though since it's twice the price.

I'm running through the same dilemma now with car buying. I need to replace my 540 and I'm leaning toward sensible option the 115hp Jetta (oh my God!), or GTI/Mini Cooper JCW. With the money I save going with the 3510.50, I can get a fun car to go with the watch :)

Bought from these folks (via Chrono24):

What the hell is that ugly piece of crap beside it?

Fits well on my diminutive wrist.

Just small enough to avoid the dreaded lug overhang.

Real beauty. And it's not a winder!!!

(that goes under PRO's for me)

p.s. I read the rest of your post.

do NOT... I repeat... DO NOT buy mini cooper!!!

If you want something fast 'n cool buy R26 Megane. You wouldnt beleive that car. It have nothing to do with Renault!!!

But do your research - do not missplace it with 225 HP Regular Turbo version since they're completely different cars.

R26 was loong time record holder in FWD car category on Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Originally I wanted the Golf R but didn't make the waiting list. We don't have Renault here...

I've done the 135 coupe (ok her car) and it was a beast and so was my 128 convertible. We both loved them then but they have to be somewhat sensible 4 door cars now. I've been looking at the 1M and missed that opportunity too. They go for far too ridiculous second hand pricing now...
