Rolex Submariner 114060 and 116610 Gen vs Rep

Hi all

 

I recently bought a gen Rolex Submariner and thought I'd share it with you by comparing it to rep that I bought from TrustyTime.

 

Question is, which is which?

What this tells me is that the reps are really, really good!

 

My instinct says that the 116610 is the rep.

As silly as his sounds I believe watch 1 is the gen. The o-ring gives it away.

Lots of nitpicking tells but overall very nice, both of them.

The rep is probably a BP - looks quite good.

Which is puzzling as you d buy rep as no date due to the general issues with cyclops

Yes, you are all correct, Watch 1 is the gen and Watch 2 is the rep.

 

I'd say the biggest differences are really in the detail. The level of detail in the gen is simply outstanding, every single little thing is perfect.

 

They key differences are:

- The ink on the face is more pronounced on the gen.

- The crown on the clasp on the rep is different.

- The steel feels a bit different and more "brushed" on the gen.

- The gen is shinier than the rep (not sure if this is just age though).

- There are some differences in the crown.

- The bezel is sharper on the gen.

 

These are really nit picky and if you buy the rep, you could quite easily pass it off as the gen, provided they don't open up the caseback!

Very close! Side by side tells them apart but everyday wear not so easy.

I bought it about 1.5 years ago though so I'm not sure if the model has been replaced.

It's really close, when you don't know where to look you could think it's gen ! I'm always checking the space between the markers and the "10" on the bezel ^^

Haven't read the posts to give the answer to myself so I'm going to guess from studying the two watches that Watch 1 is the one from TrustyTime. I think they both look like nice watches and it is pretty hard to discern the two. The machining looks nearly identical on both but watch 1 looks like it has a bit more quality to it.

Damn close for a watch 1.5 years old. The SEL and clasp fit to me is the biggest difference with watch one being Rolex perfect.
