$13,000 for a Homage??

Recommended Posts

Andylaw1919

I was recently at a pawn shop and I noticed a watch that I thought was a Datejust turns out it's a "Marco Polo Arowana" turns out this homage is almost $13,000! I looked up the brand but found no result. However I did find another company selling the same watch for $11,000. I don't understand why someone would pay that much for a homage when you could buy the gen for around the same price!

Heres a pic....

18kt Gold? (750 stamped)

And it would be still way too expensive....

Who would it know....

The dial says Chronometer so it's either a COSC grade ETA with a certificate or a total scam made in China. No way a gen Swiss watch would have that word without a COSC test of the movement.

Gold Rolex models range from 190-220g of 14kt gold, slightly higher for 18kt gold.

Current gold price via the global gold exchange puts the weight of 14kt gold around $34.5 per gram so @ 220 grams the watch is worth $4,416.00

18kt would be around $5678.00

I would much rather have a genuine Rolex or other brand for that price.

The movement looked like a 2824. However after doing some more research it appears that this "Brand" is only available in China during the early 2000's. A similar brand called "Surich" seems to have replaced this one.

I have a Marco Polo world-timer.

Watch is probably worth a few hundred bucks at best (mine is stainless steel with applied indices though).

I won't investigate rates but if your post is correct - that means that in about 30 minutes after you grind your watch in blender - you can have 6.000$ in first gold pawn/buy shop.

And you can get a 10-30% more if you know someone in processing precious metal workshops.

Gold does have its advantages.

Gold value plus real diamonds maybe? Never heard of that brand of watch myself.

Because being a Rolex, everyone will think the gen is a fake.

correct me if i am wrong, but inst arowana a type of fresh water fish? quite an ugly fish IMHO. Moreover, fresh water fish? there is less sense of adventure unlike you know salt water that can be associated with the ocean.
