Nikosaldente 630 Posted June 23, 2016 Hey guys! Most of us are having a bunch o watches that don't get much wrist time... Some of them are hand wound, some quartz and most of them automatic... What is the best place for an auto watch to get its "beauty sleep"? A watch case or a watch winder? Which one is the best for the longer life expectancy of the watch? What are the pros and cons? Please share your thoughts and knowledge! Cheers!
PhillyRock 0 Posted June 23, 2016 Just get a watch box. Watch winders are not necessary, a luxury, get noisy with time, consume electric, and hold only a couple pieces. Automatics don't need to be kept charged. If you're anal about it, just pull the crown out when you take it off so the spring stays juiced.
onionbag 1 Posted June 23, 2016 Winders look nice but are frankly, not necessary. Some movements only self wind in one direction, so if you by one make sure it alters from CWR to CCWR. Why do Scots wear kilts? We've all got knob ends like 5lb mash hammers. That's why.

RUSH2112 11 Posted June 23, 2016 Watch box. Make your own from a humidor.
mysterio 18 Posted June 26, 2016 Watch box. Make your own from a humidor. That's if you have a humidor to begin with. Used humidors cost as much as some inexpensive watchboxes. Plus won't the watches smell of tobacco afterwards?
replicastuff 0 Posted June 26, 2016 Watch box, maybe get a watchfinder the ones you wear in rotation so you dont need to wind them
TheSav 2 Posted June 26, 2016 A winder is only useful if you have autos that are in high rotation. If your watches are going to sit dormant for a while then its just added wear and tear for no good reason. Even still, nothing beats the ritual of setting your watch and then giving it a gentle swirl to wake it from its slumber.
Nikosaldente 630 Posted June 26, 2016 True....it is like a ritual to set your watch and bring it back to life!

I have seen pics of people's boxes with the crowns out and wondered why .... Is it a necessity? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
