Rolex Explorer I - Review & pics

Recommended Posts

Hinclimincli

So, after some research and some patience, here it is, my new Explorer I! Came from Josh, who has been 120% up to his reputation. Really fast communications, and very quick shipment (5 days from order to receiving).

It's sporting an Asian ETA 2836 (there was the option for the Rolex clone but I wanted to stick to what it's known to be a workhorse movement).

The watch doesn't disappoint at all, building quality is top, feels sturdy and reliable as an Explorer should.

The bracelet is way better than what I expected, although there are two links that aren't super smooth, even after being a couple of hours on WD40.

Had it pressure tested too at my local Timpsons (thanks for the suggestion guys!) and indeed it can go way more than 50m. This means it can be my daily beater when I go trekking, swimming in the sea, pool or anywhere without having to worry. Exactly what I wanted for this watch.

You'll see that the SEL are almost flawless, and (surprise!) the crown screws almost perfectly lined up!

Some nice pics there, any questions welcomed.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the pressure test at Timpson's ?

It was free, actually. The best moment was when I joked about it being a real Rolex or not ("I hope it's a real one, for what I've paid, ha!"), and after "careful" review the guy nodded at me saying "sir, it is indeed a real Rolex, and a very fine one, congratulations".

Yeah thanks mate, you made my day, I thought.

Getting a water test done is one of the best confidence builders for a new watch owner. If it'll stay dry, and you're not afraid to get it wet, you'll enjoy it a lot more.

Good looking watch, wear it in good health!

That's exactly what I thought. What would be the point, with this watch, huh? ;-)

Thanks!
