Royal Oak Survivor... Where do I go?

Recommended Posts

Audemars fan

I am a hobby watch collector but not what you would call an expert on watches. I just love the look and feel of a good watch. Unfortunately for me I have unintentional expensive taste. It seems like the watches I like always cost me more than makes sense to me. I have five originals but I don't enjoy wearing them as much as I would like because when you have a 65,000 dollar watch on your wrist and someone bumps into you then it is already a minor tragedy... It is only as of late that I have gotten interested in replicas because I figure that I could wear the replicas when I am in a more rough environment and keep the originals for important stuff.

Like I said... Being that I am by no means a watch expert I simply enjoy the look of a watch that visually pleases me so I would not feel weird wearing the fake on most occasions.

However... I have come to realize that finding a good replica is harder than it seems... There are so many websites that seem to be less than honest and even the ones that look legit it seems like the replicas aren't even close to the original. I guess for someone who has never seen the original the overall look is similar but if you own the real thing then little differences will stick out like a sore thumb.

Anyway...

I hope I am not too much of a pain to ask for some help in regards to finding a few replicas which are very close to the original.

My favorite watch by far is the Royal Oak Survivor. Would someone be able to point me in the right direction where I could find a replica that doesn't seem fake at first glance? Thank you very much in advance for any tips you might be able to give me. And thank you for this very informative forum by the way. I think I will spend a lot of time here.

Wow...

Didn't expect rudeness in a forum like this. Didn't ask for anyone holding my hand. I asked for some "TIPS" as to where to look and what to look for. I would think that the elitist attitude might prevail in pretentious authentic watch forums. I expected people to be a bit more down to earth here but hey... You live and you learn, right?

Thank you very much for the kind reply.

Kind of restored my hope that I might find some nice people here who don't mind being helpful.

I think this is a beautiful watch of course since the overall look is AP but I am definitely looking for a mechanical movement and a closer reproduction of the face of the watch. How does the automatic version look...?

Hey what's up fan? Glad to have you here.

I would check first the trusted dealers section, look on their websites, you will see some pretty decent reps of the survivor.

Also, if you go to the Audemars Piguet sub-forum, perhaps start a post asking any owners of the survivor what they think about theirs and where they got theirs from.

Also, it would be good to read the 'stickies' in each section, there are quite a bit of reviews around plus tips on purchasing a rep.

Cheers!

Silverspeed

AP ROO Chrono's are available in quartz, modified A7750 movement and the older version were available with an A7750 sec@9.

Quartz are the most reliable and the cheapest plus often good quality.

The modified A7750 sec@12 versions are very well built, but unfortunaley the movement is far from good, as with all modified A7750 movements. If you get one of these count in extra $ to have it serviced, which will improve reliability.

Have a look at THE TRUSTED DEALERS and their websites to see what's available

Thank you very much. Will do just that. Someone above just showed me a quartz version of this watch. It looks nice but the differences are definitely blatant. While I am aware that a replica will never be 100 percent I am definitely looking for something that would demand me picking up the watch and expecting it before I noticed anything.

That exactly, what "qwtc" adviced you to do, susan...

You came to rule #1 - do your homework! And you did, and, see how much of useful info did you get?

"Hey, lads, show me da right direction to the watch I want!!!" isn't the proper way to start here.

I think the automatic versions of that watch may be closer, but at least $500.

As Silverspeed said, the mov't can be a problem, but not as bad as the other modified 7750, especially

Well...

I believe there are ways to talk to and treat people where no one gets offended. I am not a watch expert as I stated in the beginning but I just love a beautiful time piece. However... I am an expert in MMA, dogs and motorcycles and whenever someone asks me for advice or help on any of those subjects I gladly give it. I don't get rude with people for asking advice because I simply enjoy helping my fellow man. I don't automatically assume someone is lazy just because they ask me some questions about any given subject. In fact... I applaud people who ask questions rather than assuming the wrong things right off the bat. A person that asks for advice is not lazy but rather humble enough to admit that they don't know something and smart enough to seek out the help of experts.

Here is something for you to think about...

It takes just as much (or as little) effort to be helpful and kind than it does being rude.

Kind of sad to see that there are people who slap someone for asking for information. Imagine a world where we are all willing to help each other without making a big fuss about it?

I never asked for anyone to seek out, find me a watch, buy it for me and deliver it to my house. I simply asked if someone could point me in the right direction where I most likely will find the proper information. And guess what...? Some kind people here did just that and I thank them for it.

Anyway...

If you ever have any questions about MMA, dogs or motorcycles feel free to ask me anything. I will gladly help you out without judgement.

Take care...

Thank you very much for the kind words and the help. It is very much appreciated. I have been having a blast browsing around. Some of these replicas are very close indeed. Cannot wait to see how they compare to the real thing in person. :)

Thanks again...

This is from the RWG Guidelines:

3. Trolling, argumentative behaviour and generally being an idiot is positively encouraged - providing it's in fun. Note: the growing of a fairly thick skin is generally recommended, but please try to remember that drama belongs on the stage, not in our forum.

It's nothing personal, really :)

Oh, and Survivor is one of the fugly watch, by the way... Looks, like a kettle.

I always find it interesting when someone looks at a piece of art like a painting or a watch in this case and says it is "ugly".

Ugly according to whom?

Imagine someone standing in front of a Picasso saying "this painting would be beautiful if it had more green in it". The next person might say "my God this is the most beautiful painting in the world".

The truth is that both statements are ignorant.

Because "beauty" and "art" cannot be judged by a singular individual. If you think that the Survivor is "ugly" just because you don't like the look of it then your ego is getting the better of you. Let me explain....

Most watches I see don't do it for me... In fact there are watch makers who have never made a watch I liked like Rolex for example. But would I ever say that Rolex makes ugly watches? Of course not! Just because I don't like their style does not mean that Rolex watches are ugly. It just means I personally am not feeling it.

If I say that Rolex makes ugly watches I am acting ignorant.

But if I say that Rolex has a style that doesn't do it for me then no one can or should take offense to that. I am just stating my opinion rather than making my opinion sound like fact.

Art and beauty are in the eye of the beholder and I am glad for that. Imagine what a boring world we would live in if everyone had the exact same taste in all things?

If you can find it in yourself to see the world not just through your limited point of view but rather try to imagine how other people might see it you will have a much broader and wiser outlook on life...
