My PAMily.....

Recommended Posts

Higs

When I stumbled across this place, I was aware of Panerai as a watch brand but they weren't what I was interested in.

Next thing I know, I realise I've got 10 of the buggers.....

Pics/details of some (if not all) of them have been posted before but I'll add more to this thread as we go.

From left to right we have:

  • PAM 380 - this and the hornlug are the only ones on the original rep straps
  • Bronze Hornlug - built by River, lightly aged by me
  • PAM247 on genuine Ferretti strap
  • PAM127 (Fiddy) on Alfio/Bakeka strap
  • PAM299 on bracelet
  • PAM091 on Nickee/2DS shark strap
  • PAM309 on Bob Asso
  • PAM288 on SergeD glossy eel strap
  • PAM312 on Orloff croc strap
  • PAM243 on SNPR strap

Stunning collection. It still boggles my mind how I always end up looking at PAMs. I'll go look for an Omega or an IWC at one of the TDs and end up buying a PAM instead. I see at least two in your collection that I'll now want to add.

How is the 312?

It's gorgeous.

I had one of the first batch that had rotor problems but I pushed it back on and it's been completely fine since.

People have questioned the lume on the 312 but it's good on mine.

I'd still like a Radiomir, can't decide between a 288 or a 309. I might have to pick one up of each. You don't have one, but the 292 really caught my eye - I think you need one too.

I've had a 292 (cheapo - not the latest, greatest rep) and also a 339. When I sold them I was intent on getting a better 292 but the attraction is fading a little for me.

Note that the extra few mm of the 309 (compared with 380, 183 etc) makes quite a lot of difference. It's feels markedly bigger. Depends what you're looking for....

Very nice Higs.

Congrats.

Especially loving the 312 on the Orloff.

Class.

I definitely like the bigger 309. The only reason I haven't bought a 292 is because of the black - whether PVD or ceramic, but that is also the attraction for me.

Starting off the individual info we have a PAM380.

This is the lovely H-factory version, bought M2M on here.

The strap is the rep one it came on and is acceptable (although I'd swap it if I found the right one to replace it).

Next up is the Bronze Hornlug.

As I understand it, Panerai made a small number of hornlug cases (2 or 3) as prototypes in the evolution from wire lugs to the more robust lugs of later cases. They were steel, not bronze.

So this isn't a 'rep' as such but I like it.

It was built for me by River who produced the various parts and offers the hornlug mid-case with a choice of dial, bezel, back and strap. I've given it a very light ageing since I got it.

Sweet collection Higs. I still like your orloff strap on the 312. I'm hoping one day you will sell it to me! I have a 187g, KW312, KW411 and a gen 88. I love them all! Next on the radar is a vac swiss pam243 and a Marlin pam127.
