Help me with this Thrift Store sale: Vintage Longines.

Recommended Posts

TheInthusiest

Alright guys, today i went out on my daily visit to the Thrift store to see if i find any thrown away timepieces.

Today i found a vintage Longines.

Sadly, i did not take a picture ( as i had no phone with me. ), but i did however manage to keep it on hold until tomorrow.

I was wondering if any of you have a vintage Longines and if they are worth spending $75 on it.

I will try to describe it for you.

Price asked: $75 (With a possible 40% off. If the cashier is an idiot and thinks its a quartz. (Electronic items only).)

Case: My judgement seems to be a 35-38mm case (Because cases from the 50's and back were relatively small)

Dial: White dial, which was quite dirty, (Possible corrosion, or false aging.) Had Arabic numerals.

Hands: Blued minute, hour and seconds.

Complications: non other than the main time and a possible power reserve on the interior (Did not manage to open.)

Movement: Manual.

Strap: Aftermarket black leather.

If you guys have any knowledge of this or any similar vintage timepiece, it would be great to here your opinions in buying it or not.

Thanks!

Yes, buy it.

One thing that concerns me is the condition of the dial. I don't know if it may be false aging or it maybe because of its true age.

Also the style of lettering for the logo. It (from what I remembered) looked similar to block lettering....

Hard to tell with the absence of pics

Why would someone false age an old watch.?? especially one that is not worth bundles..maybe it's true ageing

What are some signs to look for in a vintage watch. Other than opening the timepiece? Or is it a 50/50 chance

Sure, at $75, assuming it is in working order, it's worth every penny.

I would buy it but store is closed. The watch is working very smoothly. That was what initially caught my eye. Usually you'll see the cheap quartz.
