When can I wear my vintage Rollies again?

Recommended Posts

arty909

I tried to wear my Pre-Daytona 6238 rep to work today, and never made it to the door before switching back to my most recent purchase. When I got home, I snapped a photo to show the size difference:

Hopefully I'm just going through a phase, and the rest of my watches will soon get some wrist time...

Cheers, Arty

yep - that Pam looks great on you Arty - what is it's size? - the little rollie is just.. well too small - what is that 38mm? would looks silly on me and although you can still pull off a small watch, the larger one just looks more modern

It's a phase. Hell Pams are a fad. Great watch, but they will eventually descend back into the obscurity from whence they came, and your trusty Daytona will be waiting patiently for you, faithful to the end...

It's a phase. I went through it too, and only felt comfortable with larger watches for a while - it passed. These days, I'll wear a 47mm PAM one day and my 36mm Rollie day/date the next without really worrying about the difference in size.

They are two beautiful watches, I'm sure you will go back to that gorgeous Rolex in due course. If not though, pass it over!

Huge watches are fine in the right situations as you well know my friend.... I favor the Rolex as well, a much classier look that just never will go out of style.... :toilet:

I'm with the cat on this 'un bro.

The Pam looks just a Liiiiitle too big IMO. It certainly wouldn't wanna be a MM larger. By all meens, if ya like it, wear it but don't ignore that stunning Rolex. Hardly comon either, unlike the Pam. Pams are geting like assholes, everybody seems to have one these days.

Actually, the more I look at this thread, the more I want a 6238 - was never a big Daytona fan, but that's just gorgeous.

aaaaaaaaargh!

I've yet to get myself an "asshole" but I suppose we all need one - I'm thinking the Regatta

The majority here are fans of the Rollie - can't argue a whole lot with that but Panerai would be my personal choice by far any day of the week - and not just for it's modern size

when I consider the best PAMs vs the best Rollies in terms of style and uniqueness, the PAM wins every time (in my book) - Rolex is just plain played out, it's by far the most sold fake around these parts (which is probably why Dave also thinks they suck since he lives minutes from me) - one could even say it's the grandfather of reps and that it's synonymous with Fake (read: FOLEX) - the PAM may be played out in rep forums sure - the natural progression towards Breitling and all that jazz, but when I take my own statistics where I live, rolex are a dime a dozen while to be honest, I haven't seen a PAM on anyone.. ever, if you can believe that (as a realtor, I see all walks of life and being a watch addict, I'm constantly looking to see what they are wearing) - you could say "I don't give a shit what people think about my watch, it's important that I like it".... I'd say.. respect - where a pink suit if you want and all the power to you but come on now...

no offense to rolex lovers - in fact, I bought myself a sub too and I'd consider THAT to be the real asshole that everyone has

hell, I'd buy another rolex if they could get it right and they almost did with the Deep Sea but for some reason they thought it would be cool to fill the rehaut with text and then add more bold text on the face regarding specifications - car manufacturers to that.... but look at the text size in relation to the product - you wouldn't write ORIGINAL 32VALVE NORTHSTAR V8 on the hood of the car - ah well, I haven't counted out rolex yet and for gentlemen with normal size wrists, they look fine but on my tree trunks as oscar would put it, it's just not happening.

Good point, mate, although it doesn't stop me liking certain Rolex models (as well as my PAMs!)

Around here, however, it's Breitling you can't avoid. Every young executive has a 3-series BMW (usually a coupe with all the fancy 'M' series trim, shiny alloys and a pathetic little 1.8L engine) and some monstrous Breitling thing that looks like the Beemer's spare wheel and dazzles you to the point of blindness every time he moves his left wrist. Hell, the rep from one of the print companies we use wears a Bentley (and I think it's a gen). I hate his guts btw - flash little git

John, you've been doing really well with the porn addiction - kudos, but it's important to rub one out every so often to keep the system in proper working order

if not, you can run into... inconveniences...

an SNL skit with Justin Timberlake in there - not sure if any of you guys watch SNL - pure jokes

True, and it's certainly a factor (the gen, not the beemer) but I hated this guy even while he was still wearing a Timex and driving a Ford. Every time I see him, I wish that the company he works for wasn't so damned good at what they do
