Chiquita Fanjita 1,782 Posted January 6, 2015 The idea of getting a custom PAM all started at the Glasgow Summer GTG. I seen some of Andyboy’s custom builds 1st hand and was really impressed, then when seeing the fantastic custom Ferrari build he was doing for his Dad, my mind started thinking what could I get made that was unique to myself, but encompassed elements from my other particular favourite PAM’s. So with the main inspiration of the PAM359 & PAM203 I set about creating my own custom PAM. First off I took the 47mm caseset of the 203 with display caseback showing off the handwind movement. Next was the dial from the PAM359, which I bastardised with the date function being replaced by a 3 numeral and added some silver hands to compliment the case. I also wanted to try and keep a similar lume colour to that of the 359, so gave it an ecru finish. As I wanted it a bit more special and personal, I christened it the PAM00977 “Coats Edition”, and duly added “Coats Edition” to the dial. The reasoning behind the name and unique number is that I was born September 77, hence 977 and Coats is my surname. After sending a mock up photoshopped design to Andy, he set the wheels in motion and ordered up the parts and sent my design to get proper artwork done. When the artwork returned it was exactly what I had in mind so I gave the go ahead for the dial to be made up About a week later I got a PM from Andy saying the dial had arrived and even in its bare brass state I was loving how it looked! Next Andy set about mixing and trying various combinations to get a nice ecru coloured lume on a spare dial he had. In the daylight it has a kind of nice vintage look and in artificial light more of a creamy colour. Andy had developed a new colour - Vintage ecrupeachcyorangecream Once I was happy with this he then began the painstaking task of mixing various colours to get a wax mix for the text on the dial font colour which matched the numerals lume. Again Andy came up trumps and perfectly matched the font with the lume. Now that the hardwork on the dial had been done, Andy then painted and finished it off. I could now see how it was going to look and couldn’t wait to see it in its caseset! Sure enough a PM soon followed with a few pics of the dial in its new home with the hands seated as well. All that had to be done now was the movement fitted and a final clean up then mounted on a nice strap. I had originally fancied a black strap with ecru stitching as all my other straps are brown or tan, but Andy stuck on a nice brown JohnG strap he had for some finalised glamour shots and I was again won over and the idea of a black strap was out the window. So I got a nice tan BOB strap that was mounted it on which matches the lume quite well So now complete the PAM00977 Luminor 1950 Coats Edition was born Can’t thank Andy enough for all the hard work he has put into making this for me. It has come out even better than I had envisaged! Thanks again mate

Foxindebox 465 Posted January 6, 2015 That looks amazing, I love the dial! It's really great to have something so personal to you that wouldn't look out of place in a boutique or AD's Showroom. Means a lot for someone else to think it looks so good it's as if it's been designed and built by Panerai and could be sitting in the AD's window I wanted the dial to capture the 359 but with my own twist and think it's done it perfectly.
