Recommended Posts

esla

Hi guys so theres a dealer who sells modded watches (Rolexes with some gen parts..etc) and he's got an AP RO 15400 with the following mods

- Changed to SWISS ETA 2836 - 28800bph

- Changed to real Sapphire glass

- Extra lume on arms and hours markers

- Upgraded clasp and bracelet.

He's asking $815, Do you AP pros think its worth the price? Can you even tell if the mentioned mods have been done? He could just be making it up

Id be extremely suspect about that. Gen ETA movement with plate mods? He's either very good at what he does or is a scammer. Price seems very high even for gen swiss movement. Real Sapphire? What on earth does that mean.

Movement experts correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like a miyota 9015

Im no pro by all means but it strikes me as your average rep, I haven't really gotten into details with him yet but I guess I can go see the watch before I buy it from him, but then again, I still wouldnt be able to tell the difference between a gen/rep ETA or even a miyota and wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the sapphire and normal

Going for the 15400 with Miyota 9015 would be the safer route...

Sounds fishy. Go for a TD instead. I'm guessing your local dealer payed around 300$ for the watch and is looking to double his money.

The 15400 is as good as it gets out of the box. IMO, no need for any mods unless you want better lume.

Miyota 9015 is the same quality as those ETAs and it looks much better with the geneve pattern.

Thats a miyota movement. You can get the same watch for half the price hes asking.

Eeehhhh...

I'm gunna hafta agree with what the others here are saying. You can get the newest version of the 15400 with all the bells and whistles for about $400 (and other versions are $300) and it looks no different to me from the pictures you've posted. I own a twotone 15400 that I paid $408 for and I was blown back by the quality and finishing. The beveled edges on the bracelet, the unique guilloche pattern on the dial, and even the decorated rotor and movement look pretty good. Better than a lot of other decorated movements, for sure.

My advice would be, that if you really want an AP 15400, to find a TD on our forum's list of dealers here:

and buy one for half of what this other guy is asking.
