Tom3949 0 Posted December 29, 2010 I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys would pick in a 'fantasy watch' league. $1000 to buy 5 watches, ignoring shipping. Total can be under $1000, but not over. I'm a relative newbie, but from what I've gleaned here, (and from what I have ordered / am about to order), here is my offering: 1. Breitling Super Ocean Heritage V2 from Mary -$288 2. Panerai 288 from Lay at ReplicaMake - $248 3. Rolex Deep Sea Dweller from Robert, (Prestige Watch Co) - $149 4. Panerai PAM 111 from Robert - $99 5. Marina Militare 47mm 1950 Homage from Getat with Superlume and PVD gun colour movement - $111 I make that just a touch under $900 for my starter collection. Over to you guys, (and ladies). B)
trailboss99 994 Posted December 29, 2010 If I had a grand to blow on watches it would be gens mate. A grand will buy a nice used Sea Master or one of those Vostoks Balders posted plus a used Tag F1 or a selection of lesser vintage stuff from the Bay or a new Chase Durer, Lumetec or that Kalashikov Justice I still want with change left over. Col. Fair enough - but let's say hypothetically you were asked to recommend 5 reps to someone who wanted to start a collection, what would be on your list? Tom3949 0 Posted December 29, 2010 V2 SOH, Ebel panda, SOSF, GMT IIc, new model 111... That's the spirit! Doesn't need to be an all in one purchase - just a wish list of 5 watches totalling less than $1000. So newbies like me can get more ideas! B)

AustinTech 0 Posted December 29, 2010 1. Breitling v2 SOH $288 2. Omega Planet Ocean $250 3. Robert's $99 PAM 111 4. Noobmariner 5. 288 And you'd be under $1k WITH shipping. Use the money to get a better strap for the SOH or 111.
greg_r 81 Posted December 29, 2010 V2 SOH (I paid about $250 for mine) DSN Rolex/Panerai 6154 ($300) Panerai Fiddy from PWC ($299 - dunno whether he still supplies the version I have, so might have to settle for something slightly cheaper) PWC's Rolex DSSD ($149) I'd skip the fifth - the four above would be my absolute 'Must buys' - hell, if I had to cut my collection right down, those are the 4 I would never sell. Tom3949 0 Posted December 29, 2010 I am biased! Sorry I am a Panerai whore and just a little over budget:) Nothing wrong with that. I'd never even heard of Panerai until a couple of months ago and now I'm going the same way! There's just something about them ...
