2824 Tudor Crown Slipping

Recommended Posts

Received a watch today which is a beauty.

It has an issue though, a slipping crown. The crown will alter the time by about 2 hours forward then starts to slip to the point of non functionality. It seems to work in reverse but i don't fancy doing that too often in case it causes damage.

Has anyone encountered this problem with this movement before and what are possible fixes?

Thanks in advance!

Crown has a ratchet inside, could have some dirt in it? Does it wind?

it winds for about 2 hours forward then slips. it does wind in reverse without any slippage.

My apologies, it seems to be winding both automatically and with the crown okay.

So, if you can wind the watch from the crown (like 40 turns) with no slipping then the problem is not in the crown-stem assembly.

It could be a problem with some gear post which is a bit loose and makes the gear to lift and disengage from the rest of the geat train... Unfortunately I don't think it's just a matter of keyless mechanism here.

Basically the watch should be opened and disassembled in order to find where the problem is located. Not an easy task unless you know how to put hands in a movement :/

It needs an expert eye, there's a trusted dealers list for these experts, choose one depending on your location

Good luck :D

Can anyone point me in the direction of a watchmaker/fixer in the UK that would be willing to work on a rep?
