Indecisions about Omegas... and i bought... !

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone ! i'm looking to buy myself a gift in a while.

i'm a bit confused about this 4 models:

omega speedmaster moonwatch

Omega-Speedmaster-Professional-Moonwatch.jpg

Omega speedmaster broad arrow

speedmaster_broad_arrow_ref.35945000_747_3.jpg

Omega seamaster 300m Ceramic

Omega-Seamaster-300m-Chronometer-watch-style.jpg

Omega Seamaster 2254.50

omegaSeamaster300MFullsize_1.jpg

i'm just a bit more tempted about the seamasters, especially the new 300m in ceramic ! but the other 2 have more "history" especially the moon, but i'm more a diving watch man, and i never had a chrono before.. :/ and as the 2254.50 is out of production maybe it will be more an investment..

what do you think?

which one do you prefer?

cheers !

admin edit: poll now removed to prevent pointless bumping of an old thread. Moonie won.

Go with the Moonie. Side by side, the rep Seamasters are pretty dead-on for the gens....not really worth going gen. The rep moonie's aren't close though.

I wore a gen seamaster for years, then sold it on eBay and haven't missed it at all. I would only cough up the dough again for a watch with gorgeous display back movement that is essentially un-reppable, with movement manufactured in house. A typical gen Omega is just a swatch corp watch with standard ETA movement, not some boutique manufacture... I just don't think it's worth the extra $2-5K for a certificate.

PS have you seen how many 007 models they've made? :vomit:

All good watches IMO but I don't think they make the 'sword hand' SMP anymore. You'll have to get that used.

that's true ! i'm in with you,

but i think that are way overpriced some IWC/breitlings/tag heuers than omega.

Co-axial movement, for what i read, are not in house movement, but still have their ''value''. more than a modified ETA.

Of these four my choice would be the moonwatch, it's an icon. However I would also think about saving up a bit longer and going for a ceramic Planet Ocean. Also thinking about what my next gen should be, and the idea of a Titanium PO is hard to ignore.

Seems like i'm the first to say the broad arrow here. The speedy is a classic and is badly repped and the brad arrow is slightly more interesting imo.

had the rep PO and also saw on the AD... and it's too thick with the new cal 8500 for my taste.. also was looking for the old PO, but the 45.5 it's too big, i have to try the 42mm...

The moon watch just screams 'special' - that's the one I'd go for.

Love my moonie, the rep just doesn't cut it, compared to the super reps available of the other omega's, the whole watch just sings to me.

It's a classic that can be a casual or dress watch imho :)

The Mooonie is by far the most balanced of the four mentioned.

I'll go against the flow.....

....moonie is a bit boring IMHO, had the rep and its nice, but just never worn it, didn't feel special to me. So couldn't vote for it as a gen purchase. But this is just a personal opinion.....

Is this a definitive shortlist or can suggestions be made?

I see that most of you are for the moonie :D

i have to say that i love it, it's iconic and have it's charme and history..

But it's also too common.. I see a lot of them in the wild and also many of my friends have one..

It would be my first choice, and maybe it will be..

Still more confused

I'm sure you'll get loads of suggestions from the folks here....

I'd suggest the Tudor Pelagos or the Breitling superocean abyss 44.....

Vintage moonie, or at least one with a tritium dial > modern moonie.

I have a gen Moonwatch and love it, goes with everything suit or jeans, and you can change up the looks with strap and bracelet options really well.

My advice on speedmasters is to forget the limited editions and stick to an original moonwatch.

I like the seamaster too.
