Hub 4000 DOA / movement replacement?

Recommended Posts

sunbites

Soo, got http://www.puretime.watch/product/king-power-48mm-oceanographic-4000-ss-v3/ and its unfortunately DOA.

Its a 2824 movement 25j, are there any mods? Can I just buy the said movement and replace it myself? Or is it something a -novice- should not attempt?

I do have a -ok@arrival- warranty so.... dont know which way to go.

Thanks!

Matt

Go the warranty way. I wouldn't touch it, it may get tricky.

Talk to the TD first, I wouldn't go all crazy and swap the movement just yet. Plus there's a TD list for fixing stuff too if you bothered to look, could just be an easy fix.... But talk to the TD FIRST ;)

it looks like ordinary eta exept rotor. changing movement isn't very difficult especially eta to eta.

im just changing 2813 high beat to eta (now waiting for a movement) dissasembling watch wasnt difficult i think assembling wony be either.

Yeah i think with instructional videos it shouldnt be hard at all. Where did you purchase your movement?

ive bought used Tissot pr50 with gen eta 2836 for about 50 dollars, and will take the movement, in Poland its better way tu purchase movements, than buying new ones in Uk or USA

You need gen eta 2824 or chinese clone of it, cousins have those

Have you had the back off ??

If you do swap. Can I have the old movement :)

Other things could go wrong changing the movement. Some specialist tools are required you could scratch the dial bend the hands. It could be something really silly and easy to fix. Screw come loose, dirt, too much oil. I've fixed really simple problems that stopped the watch dead.

Sure I understand a 2813 is cheep but 2824's are not. Do cousins UK do clone 2824??

They do chinese clones too. Just dont know what it's called. I will open the caseback and send pictures; lets see what happens then. Maybe i can find some local watch guy to do it for me.

Woah guys...

Yes you can do this. Yes it can go wrong. Yes you need some specialist tools.

The datewheel doesn't look like one that comes with a new movement so that will need to be swapped. It's not that difficult but it's not something that can just be done on a hotel desk with a penknife.

How will you take the caseback off?

Stem out?

Movement retention screws out?

Could you lose a tab inside the movement?

Hands off? Scratch the dial?

Dial off? Datewheel swap? How?

Rotor swap.

Dial back?

Hands back on? Date change at midnight? Scratch the hands? Break the pinions? Do the hands miss each other?

Stem in. Damage the keyless?

Dirt inside the crystal? How will you clean it?

Dirt on the dial? Scratch the dial while cleaning it?

Retention tabs and screws back in?

Lose a tab or screw inside the new movement?

Grease the crown seals.

Drop of the correct oil on the stem

Stem in? Damage the keyless?

Does it all work?

Grease the caseback seals.

Refit the caseback and tighten.

It's not that difficult but there are plenty of places where it can go wrong. It feels great when it works. I'd say practice on a few cheapies first.

Yeah I understand it :-D Will wait with the replacement obviously till i get back home. Just thought there may be some easy fix. I took the back off, and the rotor is scratching while moving... Dunno ,there is a video being uploaded just about now.

And there is the video:

https://dl.dropboxus...%2000.01.22.mov

the auto wind bridge needs to be removed, after that you can check the mail spring spins and in turn moves all the 3 other wheels attached. if this is stiff and does not move then that's the problem, my guess is a strip down of the top sections would reveal the fix.

If you bought M2M and have an Ok@arrival from the seller then quite simply contact them first. Don't start getting ahead of yourself

Remove the oscillating weight. Then the autowinder after that you can get some peg wood or cocktail stick and push the main wheel/spring . Big silver one I guess this should turn all the other gears.
