cogwatch 1 Posted September 27, 2015 Cogwatch's Top 10. This was a very tough exercise. There are many that it makes me sad for them not to be counted in the top 10 as I really love them. A couple of tourbys, a Steinhart OVM, a vintage BPFF, a Breitling 44mm SOA with yellow highlights, a Montblanc Duo Carbon Chrono, a Pam 520, a Seagull 1963, a Seiko Original Black Monster with a Di-Modell Chronissimo strap, a Tissot SeaStar1000, a Victorninox Ambassador, the list goes on. But 10 is 10, and I had to make some very hard choices to get to this list. But, to give some of the runner up's a little bit of love, there's a few of them shown after the Top 10. No details, just a pic or two each. OK, here goes, Cogwatch's Top 10. This is in alphabetical order. AP Rubens Barrichello II. Rep with Profsteve crystal. I often pick this one when I go out for a nicer dinner or other occasion. I just love the complete package of looks and quality. The Profsteve crystal is a very important element as well. Alpina Nitelife Club Automatic. Gen with Profsteve crystal. This one is just crisp, clean, and sharp as can be. The textured dial and the bit of red on the second hand base are key. And again, the Profsteve crystal is absolutely critical on getting this one in the top 10. Chopard Mille Miglia GTXL Chrono. Rep with Gen Strap. I really liked this one originally, but I just didn't like the rubber tire tread strap it came with. When I added the gen leather strap, it skyrocketed to a top favorite. Deep Blue Valjoux 7750 500m Chronograph with 65 Tritium T100 Tubes. Gen. Why do I like this one? 65 Tritium T100 Tubes!!!!! Funny story on this one. I use it as my bedside table "clock". My alarm clock was always too bright even on the dimmest setting. So I now use the Deep Blue Tritium watch as my "clock" by my bedside. That's one damned expensive bedside "clock". But I can't tell you how many times before I go to sleep that I just open my eyes and stare at the tritium glow in awe and amazement. I love it!!! Note, in the lume pic, the numbers on the bezel are standard high quality lume, which fades after a while as is typical with standard lume. But the 65 tritium tubes on the dial glow beautifully and consistently all night. Eberhard Traversetolo Vitre. Gen. This one's in the top 10 simply because it's an absolutely beautiful watch and strap. A brand and watch that most people have never heard of and I feel lucky to have come across it. And thanks to Ish's help in me understanding what a special watch this was. And the icing on the cake is I got it on RWG M2M for a great price. One of those typical "well priced gens don't move on RWG M2M" watches that sat there for a long time, and I snatched it up thinking "what are people thinking letting this go unsold"!!!!! Ebel Discovery Panda. Rep. Not much to say about this except that it's an Ebel Discovery Panda!!! I don't know if you know this one, but it's a rare bird that some people lust after but never get the chance to snag one. I was lucky enough to come across this one in my diligence at constantly checking M2M. I also have a number of other Ebels, including a black/red Discovery, a black/red 1911 BTR, a black/yellow 1911 BTR, and a cream 1911 BTR. The black/yellow and cream 1911s were both strong contenders for the top 10, but the Discovery Panda beat them out probably because of it's rarity and that extra special feel that gives. Omega Seamaster 200 Co-Axial. Rep, with custom Phizzy strap. This one is special because the incredible combination with the custom leather strap using the bracelet clasp that Phizzy and I worked together to create. You've seen the pics, but here they are again for easy reference. Oris Black Small Seconds. Gen. This one is just a beautiful, incredibly high quality gen watch. The waves on the dial, the orange and stainless on the dial against the black, the shape of the case, all come together into an incredible package. Pam 286 Rattrapante. Rep, with Phizzy Strap and Profsteve Crystal. Pam is the only brand that had more than one in the top 10. This one is just incredible with the textured dial, the blue highlights on the second hand and the first 10 seconds of the 3:00 subdial. The Profsteve crystal and the Phizzy strap just take an already awesome watch over the top, and easily into the top 10. Pam 243 Submersible. Rep with a very special custom strap from McJules. This one has a story that some of you know. The below is from a thread I posted when this was put together. Thanks to Ice_Man (Scott) and McJules (Jon, aka Bond Tailored Straps). Watch from Scott, and strap of course from Jon. Both are special in their own way. The watch came from Scott a while back at a time when he really needed to let it go. Many of you know Scott's story. I didn't have a PAM 243 on my want list, actually wasn't even really interested in a 243 at all. I'd seen plenty of pics, but it just didn't excite me. But Scott really needed to sell it so I pulled the trigger. Once I got it I REALLY liked it. Pics just don't do the 243 justice. You have to see it in real life to really get it. Thanks Scott for introducing me to this wonderful watch!! The strap, which just arrived this weekend, is very special indeed. It was conceived by Scott and Jon, made by Jon, and the easy part, purchased by me. Jon possessed a WW1 Italian Naval belt from 1914, the leather just turned 100 years old this year! Scott thought, as Panerai was founded in the late 1800s for specialized equipment for the Italian Navy, it would be great to have a strap made from material that holds such historical significance. On top of the historical significance of the leather, Scott came up with the idea of having the Italian Navy's motto "Patria e Onore", which means "Country and Honor", branded on the inside of the strap to add to the significance of the PAM's heritage. cogwatch 1 Posted September 27, 2015 The eberhard is just beautiful. Cheers for sharing the pics Thanks PBR!! I said at the beginning of the thread that coming up with the Top 10 was a difficult exercise. The Eberhard was an exception to that. It was in the To 10 without a moment of thought...... Piccolo 673 Posted September 27, 2015 Lots of great watches there - not surprised it was hard to pick a top 10! Thanks for sharing
jingo.smile 0 Posted September 27, 2015 Wow! That's a hell of a collection! That Eberhard is just beautiful! Wonderful strap! May I ask how much it cost you?
cogwatch 1 Posted September 27, 2015 I believe if I counted right, there are 92 watches shown above. I have about 150. So there are still 50+ that aren't shown. I just got tired of finding and/or taking pics, and the process of putting them in Photobucket and linking from Photobucket........ It was a lot of work just for the ones above. Maybe I'll add the rest one day after a break from this effort
GenTLe 1,501 Posted September 27, 2015 Jeez... That is A collection!!!
cogwatch 1 Posted September 27, 2015 Wow! That's a hell of a collection! That Eberhard is just beautiful! Wonderful strap! May I ask how much it cost you? As I said above on the Eberhard = "One of those typical "well priced gens don't move on RWG M2M" watches that sat there for a long time, and I snatched it up thinking "what are people thinking letting this go unsold"!!!!!" I paid...........................are you ready for it.......................are you sitting down.......................................I paid an unbelievable $650. Ish will no doubt come along soon and state how incredibly crazy a price that was.
jingo.smile 0 Posted September 27, 2015 650$?! That's is indeed crazy! In Germany they cost about 1200€ o_O As I said, beautiful! Congratulations and thanks for the effort of collection the pictures in one thread!
NFleischer 4,355 Posted September 27, 2015 Wow - you are severely afflicted with the fever! Some very cool looking pieces there. I can relate; at least 120+ watches here. It gets to the point of being ridiculous having all these watches, yet I find myself still looking.
ag69 0 Posted September 27, 2015 Great collection of watches!! Now we just need to see the next 100 or so in the collection.
FunnyStarSystem 7,538 Posted September 27, 2015 Really lovely, so much fun to look at others collections and see what makes them *tick*.
cogwatch 1 Posted September 27, 2015 If any of you were wondering, I actually wear every one of my 150+ watches in rotation. Some of you know my method, but for those that don't....... I create a random number wear list and go through all the watches in rotation using that list. Here is my current list.
Robin195959 2 Posted September 27, 2015 Love it Cog. I have about 70 and try to wear most. I probably manage 40 over six months. How do you generate your list and label the watches?
FunnyStarSystem 7,538 Posted September 27, 2015 That's too awesome, I bet your house is spotless as well!
cogwatch 1 Posted September 27, 2015 Love it Cog. I have about 70 and try to wear most. I probably manage 40 over six months. How do you generate your list and label the watches? I use Random.org to generate the random list. PM me if you want to know what parameters to tell it to get the format I get. Also, I can email you the Excel spreadsheet I use for the numbers that is set to print out a nice format and size, with the bold borders around the numbers, etc. As far a how do I "label the watches". I have 3 watch boxes with 50 watches each. Actually they are drawers, and I made the partitions and watch pillows myself. There's a pic of box #1 below. The watches are in alphabetical order, as you can see box #1 starts with AP and goes through JLC.
Stewart 0 Posted September 27, 2015 An incredible and beautiful collection! Interesting to note that many of the gens did not make top ten. Just goes to show how nice many reps are. I can see why it was a difficult decision, all of your watches are really nice.
