Fixing timing loos on a submariner ??

Recommended Posts

PeterWorcester

Anyone,

I just received a really nice Submariner and love it. I have only one question, right now it looses 45 seconds every 24 hours. I have a time pet peeve so I won't wear this as my daily watch.

So what I want to know is this.

If I follow DB's post http://www.replica-watches-guide.com/forum...?showtopic=3545

Will removing the back, changing the timing, and jut putting the back on ruin the waterproofing ?

Is there any special thing I need to do to maintain the waterproofing, if I remove the back ?

TIA,

Peter

45 secs in 24 hours is one hell of a lot and probably impossible to regulate out. What movement is it?

It's Lay's Submariner with the 2836-2 movement. My DSSD from Lay has gained one second in 6 days so far, I'd call that spectacular for an automatic.

I guess it's worth a try and calibrating it out, any advice on sealing the back again to keep it waterproof ?

TIA,

Peter

I use this for the case back o-ring, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Watch-ReSealing-Grea...=item5ade86a02d you just pop the ring in and twist, it puts just the right amount on and this around the crown and tube using a toothpick and wiping off excess, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/silicon-grease-10-gr...=item5641e5e80f

...be sure to crank everything back on tight though...

I had a watch from Mary that gained 8 minutes in 1 hour. I managed to regulate it just fine.

Only you would be able to totally defeat horological science and all without an analyser no doubt. You must be the toast of watchsmiths everywhere.

@Peter, I use an Horb, it's a rubber ball type thingy you can buy for $3.00 from the rwg shop. However, if you get some sticky tape, roll it into a ball sticky side out, press it onto the caseback and twist it should get it off ok...

I tried the sticky tape and the horb ball from a friend, neither one worked, so I ordered the rolex die set from the RWG shop, hopefully that will open it.

Thanks Sconey,

Cheers,

Peter
